that was my issue, with the popping through the exhaust, does anyone know why point don't wear even.. you would think that the contact surface as flat when new would wear even..

i ckd the points looked a little burnt on the outer half edge of the point contact surface.. filed and charged the batt popping gone so far...its raining so test drive later... not sure if that would have caused it or not...

thanks, for all the replys, Ill ck this weekend. it funny like I said it started on the driver side then stopped ran great then started it the other day, pop was on the pass side..

few weeks ago I started it. it was running good but when given a little gas it pop through the driverside header...then quit ran great... yesterday I started it same thing through on the pass side header, idles good but hold it steady at 1500 to 200 it pops periodically..its a mild build, duel...

sry about that..the engine was built and ran very shortly due to low oil pressure..then taken out and stored... the couple of small thin black rubber pieces I found look like old oil pan gasket.... it all looks new still have cross hatch in the cylinders, had a friend that heard it running said...

I have a 71 440 that was build 20 yrs ago had low on start up, decided to go a different route...engine have been stored inside this whole time...took just the pan off and crank out seen it had a few hole in the crank that a few pices of thin rubber in them, and the bearing had some scratches...

can I use the hi volum pump with a 7qt pan....and should I?

thanks for the great replys.. my 66 dart will have a mild built 440 and will also be using a straight axel, 60s gasser style.. it will be driven on the street as well as playing alittle..

wanting to know if the 8 3/4 weight difference vs the dana 60 dead weight on the axle to help with traction is worth one over the other.....

I know it has had to be covered here just cant find it... how do I know witch to use.. full 3/4 or 1/2 grooved bearings...the ones I took out were 1/2 grooved on the mains with a thrust flang dia of 3 9/16 = 3.5625 looking for the right bearings.... crank is 30/30...thanks
