    Tunnel Ram 383

It's seems these T-ram threads always go in the same direction.. I'm just curious about something, How did the factory long ram engines perform? The runners are a lot longer then a T-ram plus they were in heavyass mopars.. I guess maybe high compression and a solid cam? I dunnno I've never...

    400 to 512 Build

I'm gonna do plenty of test&tunein' and feel the valiant out before I race it... That straight axle might put me into the wall the first pass... Safety for me and the guy in the other lane is my number one concern....

    400 to 512 Build

Talk about leaving a carbon footprint, Al gore would have a heart attack... Thats a nice track... Theres not many mopars at shadyside, I'm hopein' my valiant will do pretty good in footbrake..

    400 to 512 Build

Heres the only track I'll be running at.. It's a good track, the owner resurfaced it about 2 years ago.. 10.5 outlaw cars run there and some pro/mods test&tune at it.. 1/8 mile... YouTube - ShadySide 10.5s ShootOut

    400 to 512 Build

I like those HP numbers... I'll be racing down south in good air at an outlaw track.. One part at a time but I'll get there.. I'd have to spend a crap load of cash anyway to reach the performance level I want out of the 383 so why not just spend a little more and go BIG...

    400 to 512 Build

512 cubes in a lightened '66 straight axle valiant should be pretty wicked... I'm looking for a 400, I'm following your build...

    400 to 512 Build

That 400 is lookin' good... I'm thinking about ditchin' my 383 build and going with a big cube 400... One more 600 eddy and trim and fit the scoop and I'll have my induction set up...

    400 to 512 Build

Could be. What these guys were pouring into what sand castings back in the polyester days is up in the air as far as I'm concerned. Total crap shoot, that's why I had the block sonic tested. Yeah, you were lucky you didn't find a saturday night fever 8-track in that oil pan when you tore it...

    400 to 512 Build

That was an interesting read.... Wonder why everyone else came up with a thin wall casting theory except 440source..... Thay did say the older blocks had 10% harder iron... Maybe thats why the thin wall casting theory got started...

    400 to 512 Build

I never did mess with the 400's, are thay thin wall casting blocks?? Going from 400 to a 512 just blows my freakin' mind... Are you going to hardblock it up the the frost plug holes??

    400 to 512 Build

Sounds like the build is movein' right along... I may try building one of those 400 strokeeeeeeeer motors after I grenade a couple 383's...

    400 to 512 Build

Stick with your plan, it'll work.... I'm gonna have to do a lot more to my 383 then I first thought to get to the performance level I'm shootin' for... Ok, the way I figure it on my homemade redneck speed calculator (an empty coors lite can and a red sharpie), I figure if I get my valiant...

Custom fabbed headers for a 66-Abody???

You're right... I was thinkin' outside the frame because 66's are narrower, without torsion bars and colume shift linkage, I probably can run inside the frame, I'll also have a mini-starter...

Custom fabbed headers for a 66-Abody???

I'm building a straight axle gasser, I might have a liittle more "wiggle room" as far as inner fender wells, I can also re-locate the upper shock mounts...

Custom fabbed headers for a 66-Abody???

I've not really gotten into full blown research on 383/440 headers for a 66-Valiant yet, what I have seen is that these fenderwell A-body header prices are going to stick me with a set of stock manifolds if I don't come up with someting else, thats just "BUDGET REALITY".... Has anyone on here...

    Good cheap 383 builds??

    440 HP(Six pack rods)

Go for it!!! I know where a 1967 HP 440 is I need to re-check on, closed chamber heads, steel crank, you know, ole' school junk.. I've been letting him simmer on that last price quote for 2 years now, Ba$tard will probably go up on me ;)

    440 HP(Six pack rods)

I'd prefer the factory six pack rods and steel crank anyday over the china junk, 440's don't need to be twisted 8000 rpm... Maybe I'm just ole' school...

    Old HP magnum 383-440 cam???

Maybe this solves the mystery of why I saw so many 383 magnums suck a non HP 440's headlights out back in the early 80's..

    Old HP magnum 383-440 cam???

Wasn't gonna do an eddy cam just compairing the numbers...
  26. greenhornet

    Old HP magnum 383-440 cam???

Dang, those factory specs are higher than the edelbrock performer plus, 270-280/.420-.442....

    440 HP(Six pack rods)

Thay may be out dated, but every 440 6-pack bottom end I ever tore down the block would crack before the rods or crank would let go..

    Old HP magnum 383-440 cam???

Do you have a good set of 8?? Do they have press in pins or floater? How much for a set?
  29. greenhornet

    Old HP magnum 383-440 cam???

You may be right about the 425hp @ 5000, but you gotta consider that chrysler "de-tuned" the Hemi to come up with that figure...
