No promises that bending won't cause problems but I did it to mine to get clearance without issues.

    Fitech and throttle cable question

I'm still using regular carburetor springs with the fitech spring unhooked and the lower hole. I haven't figured out a better solution yet. I get full open with the low hole but don't really care for the spring setup I have.

    Intake for 1965 273

I used to do it regularly when 273s were more common. Did it for friends cars too, even with iron manifolds. (66 &67 four barrel 273s to the 64 -65) I'm sure others on here have done it with good results as well.

    Intake for 1965 273

If you are wiling to wallow out the bolt holes to modify the angle, yes. The ugly enlarged holes can be hidden by flat washers.

    Fitech and throttle cable question

I got my adapters years ago from Performance Automotive Warehouse. They look like this. I'm pretty sure I saw the same thing in a mail order catalog recently but I don't remember where I saw them.

    Fitech and throttle cable question

That is what I did first. Then I thought I could use the Fitech return spring if I moved the cable up to provide more leverage. Turns out the Fitech throttle travel in the high hole is 2.56" while Holley carbs in the high hole are 2.1". Early A-body cables max travel is 2.25". The cable pull...

    Fitech and throttle cable question

I have enough cable travel with a 850 Holley carb in the big hole too. Just not enough with the Fitech.

    Fitech and throttle cable question

Has anyone succesfully used the large 1/2" throttle cable position on their Fitech throttle body with a stock cable? I originally hooked the throttle cable for my early A Body to the lower hole but the throttle pedal is stiff. When I move the cable to the top hole with an aluminum bushing for...

Anybody use this aircleaner for hood clearance?

Another big No from me. A friend had one on his 66 Barracuda. He wound up with a nice black basketball sized design in the middle of his shiny red hood!

    clear coating an aluminum intake

Yup, speaking from experience clear on an intake turns yellowish and over time gets yellower, with brown and black spots and really looks ugly in not too much time. Regular engine enamel in colors holds up fairly well but, as has been mentioned, powder coating is the method that looks good and...

    Air/Fuel meter recommendations??

Wide band. Initially thought of a kit but if there is a cost effective way for an old school kind of guy to "do it myself" (or with a little FABO help) I'd be interested.......

Replacing gas tank in my '65 Dart...

Just examine the filler tube in the are where the sealing ring seats. If that is rusty or got a bunch of crud on it clean it prior to installing the new tank.

Replacing gas tank in my '65 Dart...

After the steps you mention, if you have the fuel line disconnected to the sender and the wire off you just drop the passenger side down and rock it a bit and it should slide off the filler tube.

how large of a carb can perform well on stock 273 commando ?

I'm at 4500 ft and think I got down in the neighborhood of 64 and 65s to get decent plug readings. It's been several years so I don't remember for sure.Try something a few steps smaller and watch your plugs closely until you get dialed in. Unfortunately with modern gasoline it's a lot harder to...

how large of a carb can perform well on stock 273 commando ?

I used to run a 650 dbl pumper on one of my 273s. 10.5 motor with a slightly hotter crane cam and headers. It worked ok after I got it tuned in. Definitely needed to be leaned down though ..... Later I put a 600 on it thinking it might work better but it was not a noticable difference.

    stock 340 carb size????

340 and 360s came with both 800 and 850cfm Thermoquads depending on the year. Remember that the thermoquad uses the small primary bores for good street manners and then has the spring loaded secondary air door which regulates flow up to whatever is needed, to the max cfm of the carb. That is...

    hope theres no stupid question

Take a look at this and other explanations of how a carb works via Google. http://www.explainthatstuff.com/how-carburetors-work.html Your carb is designed to run on the front two barrels until you open the throttle enough to bring the rear two into action. It takes a fair amount of airflow to...

thoughts on the edelbrock sp2p manifold

My Dad had a '77 Dodge D-150 with a 318 that never did run very well. He drove it for many years not being satisfied with it's performance but he would never let me work on it to any extent. Then, one day one of his chemistry students bought a used Chrysler Cordoba and and told him it came with...

    Thermoquad help

Yes, the 6322S was used on more than a few motorhomes in 73. I had a boss who insisted on tuning his and then after he tuned it up he would bring it to me get it to run properly:-) The 6322S makes a pretty decent hot rod carb because it has the versatile 1966 rods.
