You might want to find out what widths and backspace are available for 5 on 4 17" wheels and determine tire width based on the very limited wheel availablity.

There are many ways to get to a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. If you are planning to go to front discs the 73 up front disc swap is probably the most common and gets you to 4-1/2 circle. Then you would need to redrill your rear axles or far better , find an 8-3/4 rear end and put in some 5 on 4-1/2...

Yes, I've still got 13s on my 64 convertible. They are not real easy to find but they definitely look correct and it drives just fine.

Most likely scenario in my experience.: The factory wheels are designed so that they contact in the hub area of the drum and have a recess in the wheel to clear the outer lip of the brake drum. Aftermarket wheels often have less(or no) recess so the wheel contacts the outer edge of the drum...
