The French Drag Racers need your HELP !

It's really easy guys. It starts out in French but if you scroll down to the end it starts over in English and is repeated in German. The part that you fill out is toward the bottom and is in all 3 languages. All the information they want is your name, email address, connection with drag racing...

how to tell if heads have harden valve seats

Mopars had hardened seats from '72 on. Does that help?

    7 1/4?

A 7 1/4" with a Sure Grip and at least 3.55 gears will last a surprisingly long time behind a fairly mild 318. However, it WILL eventually break and the money spent to beef it up is wasted. For the cost of a Sure Grip and gears, plus setup, you would be money ahead to get a better rear in the...

Lift / Slapper bars on my Early Dart Dragcar

You can try them, but if they aren't long enough to contact the front spring eye they are just useless weight. IMO the best suspension going for A bodies are SS springs. Looks to me like your Dart is launching pretty good. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    valve float

The larger the valve is, the more it weighs. The heavier the valve gets, the stiffer the spring you need to control it.

    valve float

You left out 2 important details. What size are the valves and which springs are you currently running? The manufacturer of the lifters might be handy to know also. Gonna take a stab and say your lifters are pumping up due to insufficient preload. It's not easy to get the preload right with...

    Biggest smallblock?

Indy is offering a 472 crate small block. 4.2" bore and a 4.25" stroke. The siamese bore blocks will take a 4.2" bore and probably will go to 4.25" but there isn't a head gasket for that bore size. Yet. The Blowtie people are pushing 500 inches with a tall deck aftermarket block that has a 9.6"...

    Is it just ME???

That's why old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill. Good job!

I can't figure it out, maybe you can?

Put a timing light on it. If the timing seems to be moving back and forth at idle, you need a timing chain. It could wear out after only 10 seasons.

    forged crank

Sadly, '72 was the last year for forged crank 318s. '67-'72 were forged, '73 up were cast. Cast cranks have a sharp, well defined parting line while the forged cranks do not. The forging parting line is around 1/4" wide.

How fast have you gone with exhaust manifolds?

Don't know how fast I went. The speedometer only went to 160 and the cops couldn't catch me to let me know.

    Odd question about tires

As ray79rt said, the contact patch is your best indicator. Adjust air pressure until you get a nice even, full width, black mark on launch.

    Drum explosion...

Not hard at all if you trade it for a Nova. :snakeman: How often are you going to see 9000 RPM? If the answer is not at all or very seldom, don't worry about it. If it will make you feel any better, I have never had, seen, or heard from anyone I know, of a Torqueflite exploding. I have seen 2...

My dart vs 1969 Chevelle "396" predictions

'69 Chevelle 396? Wouldn't get in a lather about it. Used to outrun those things with a Volkswagen. Just make sure that you are running on a 1/4 mile track. Most 396s that are built enough to make any power will :puke: the bottom end before they get that far. Let us know how it turns out.
