    Edelbrock mt-5 for 318

I’ve got a couple of marine intakes, I’d take $50 plus shipping.

    Edelbrock mt-5 for 318

The street Dominator is basically a 273 HiPo manifold cast in aluminum, they had a small plenum and small runners to keep Port velocity high. The street master on the other hand has a choked down tiny plenum and runners and runs out of pull around 4000 rpm. I wouldn’t use one of them for...

    Edelbrock mt-5 for 318

I’m in Louisville Ky but I drive through Georgia all the time on my way to Florida.

    Edelbrock mt-5 for 318

Yeah, the Holley Street Dominators for small block is essentially a 273 HiPo intake in aluminum but with the bigger carb base. And the best part is they can be had relatively cheap. The Marine manifold is the same thing except cast iron. They made 2 versions of the Street Dominator and both...

Looking for valve spring recommendation for EQ heads

Brand new heads, never had any work done to them.

Looking for valve spring recommendation for EQ heads

OK, the motor is a 1993 5.9 magnum block bored .030 with a 4” Scat forged crank, Eagle I beam rods and forged Pistons with a 17cc dish. The blocks not decked so I don’t know how far they will be in the hole yet. I will include a photo of the cam card. I have a couple laying around but the one I...

Looking for valve spring recommendation for EQ heads

i picked up a set of EQ heads with valves and I’m getting ready to assemble them for my 408 Magnum. The cam I have will have right around 550 lift with 1.7 roller rockers I have. Who makes a good valve spring and retainer for this application.

    Chamber sizes on W2 heads

That's OK, I eventually figured out the 2 sets I had. They made so many variations of those heads and very little published info.

Stroke old 340 or new crate engine

They are $1085 from Jegs and Summit, I'm asking $700 but I may split shipping with you. I don't know who makes them for Mopar

Stroke old 340 or new crate engine

If you decide to stroke it I have several Mopar Performance forged 4 inch cranks I will sell cheaper than you can buy an Eagle or Scat for.

    Edelbrock heads

With the forged flat tops in my 408 I checked with a feeler gauge and they were .022 down in the hole. What I thought was going to be a lot of compression turned out to not be as bad as I thought.. you really need to take the heads off and get some good measurements before you decide what to do.

    Edelbrock heads

The J heads have big ole chambers, probably 70+ cc's

    Edelbrock heads

Check your compression ratio with a calculator, unless you have some type of dish piston with the 4 inch crank your static compression could be pretty high. My 408 with flat tops and valve notches and a zero deck put me up around 11.75 with the 60779's

Trying to choose between these 2 cams

I'm sure there are better cams made today which could be the topic of a really long discussion. What I'm trying to do is use up all this stuff around my garage. I'm sure if I spent a couple of thousand dollars on different parts it might make more HP or go a little faster but at the end of the...

I've used Racer Brown, still have one for a big block. Iskys are good too.

Trying to choose between these 2 cams

I've been using Direct Connection/ Mopar Performance cams for at least 40 years, never had a complaint. I've got a couple of Crane Zip 518 solids I've had for 35 years, can't complain about those either

Trying to choose between these 2 cams

Actually I will be building with each cam, just figuring out the immediate one that's on the stand now. I've pretty much decided the solid MP cam is the best one for this motor. The other one will end up in this Magnum based 408 stroker with EQ heads, I can run it with the Harland Sharp 1.6...

Trying to choose between these 2 cams

Yeah, it' amazing what I can dig up in this place. I'm determined to build 4 or 5 small blocks with everything that's laying here, I don't know what I'll do with them. I just bought an old 4 door 70 Valiant to use as a test mule. Just tired of having this stuff laying around. Incredible what...

Trying to choose between these 2 cams

I guess technically they are both about the same lift since when you subtract your lash which is 28/32 you end up with 529/525 out of the 557 mopar cam. I'm leaning towards using the solid cam in this motor and saving the Comp Hydraulic for another Magnum based stroker I have, with the 1.6...

Trying to choose between these 2 cams

i have this 408 that I have been building out of junk I've been digging out of my garage, I've come down to choosing between this Comp cams Hydraulic, CRS 305H10 which is 525 lift 305 duration 110 centerline, duration @050 is 253. Or the Mopar Performance 557 lift solid cam which is 296 duration...

    Before I even consider...

That cam will work fine in a stock 360 short block and will have a very small lope to it. Should be good and torquey. The intake and carb will work fine also. That cam is basically the same as a stock 340 4 speed cam in 68 except it has a little more lift.

Edelbrock heads on a 340 with KB243 pistons

Right, I'm going to order some of the .070 gaskets from Summit and use the Edelbrocks. Still have to dig through my cam pile and see what looks good.

Edelbrock heads on a 340 with KB243 pistons

I'm with you, I don't think on this motor it will make a bit of difference, I doubt I'll be changing the Pistons since it's assembled and balanced, as far as that goes I could run the .028 gaskets and the open chamber iron heads I have. I haven't worked up the compression on that combo yet.

Edelbrock heads on a 340 with KB243 pistons

OK so I checked my motor and all the Pistons are sticking out .027 so with a Cometic .070 gasket I would have .043 piston to head clearance. The next step down in off the shelf gaskets would be .060 which would give me .033 piston to head clearance. With the .070 gaskets I calculate 9.658 comp...

Edelbrock heads on a 340 with KB243 pistons

another interesting tidbit from the Mopar Engines manual, they say that the Offenhauser Port-O-Sonic is the best intake to run on a small block, they're not bad but I'm pretty sure a Holley Strip Dominator would make more power.

Edelbrock heads on a 340 with KB243 pistons

I don't have the Edelbrock open chambers, that would make things incredibly simple. That's page 55 in the Mopar engines manual 8th edition around 1991. I went back to my Direct Connection book from 1976 and it didn't even mention piston to head clearance. I just put that on here to show how...
