    Low gear set 904, pro’s and Con’s

I should have said a 2.75 lo gear with 2.94 rear gears is like driving a regular transmission with 2.45 lo gear and 3.30 rear gears.

    Low gear set 904, pro’s and Con’s

I only know one guy that used the 904 lo set in his stock lo compression 360 duster and he liked it with 2.94 gears. I'm not a quarter miler and I think that may calculate to the equivalent of 3.30 rear gears through 1st and 2nd gears with a regular automatic (2.45 lo gear)?

    Low gear set 904, pro’s and Con’s

Just curious, how do you guys like your lo gear set in your street machine. I'll be using this in my next build with 2.94 rear gears. Poor mans' overdrive. Thinking cruising around 2000 rpm, no high rpm harmonics, quieter and smoother?

    Demon 340 vs Camaro 396 (400)

I thought FAST was "anything goes" but has to be Factory appearance with stock tires? Most big blocks are 700 plus HP.

    Demon 340 vs Camaro 396 (400)

That's quite a coincidence. A local here in 1969 also had a 375 hp Nova and try as he may he could never beat the local 340 GTS. I think that happened in a lot of small towns back in the 60's. Don't forget we were " tire challenged" in the 60's and the darts components were very well balanced.

    Demon 340 vs Camaro 396 (400)

Depending on the suspension and gears an early 340 warmed up could compete with the 375 hp 396.

    Demon 340 vs Camaro 396 (400)

Too many variables ..still a friend has 396 camaro and a 408 dart.Nearly identical camshafts and gears. He is a mopar guy and said when he races the two together the 408 Dart quickly puts real estate on the Camaro but at 80 mph up the Camaro catches and easily passes his Dart. The 408 is no...

How excited do you get about racing ??

Not very much.I like to go down to the drags about twice a summer. Once for a Nostalgia style meet and the other for the points circuit to watch some of the big boys. For my own car 1/4 mile is not even a consideration. It just has to pull hard on the street and never much past legal highway speeds.

    Dart 1969 - faster 1/4mile

a friend raced 440's for years and said the highest hp builds never et'd well. Look at the torque numbers you posted for the various intakes...especially the original Torker.

Things you did/upgraded that surprised you how helpful they were

going to stock mufflers...sound great when accelerating hard, quiet for normal driving white interior..so nice when it's hot. short duration cam...smooth idle and tons of lo end torque on the street OOPS...just realized this is in the race forum

    Dyno Vs.Drag Strip Testing

It's hard to imagine someone in this hobby that builds and or races these cars that can't tune one.

    Dyno Vs.Drag Strip Testing

a small block that dynode 400... at 6000 rpm the fan, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, air cleaner and full exhaust might be 40 hp. If the dyno is out 10% of 400 that's another 40 hp....now that 400 hp small block might be 320 at the crank and 240 at the rear wheels. a recent news report said...

    Dyno Vs.Drag Strip Testing

i have no horse in this race...i don't drag my cars. But you dyno guys would have to return to the dyno every time you make a change to see what it did and i doubt if that happens unless it's your profession.A life long local racer who has raced everything from small blocks to Hemis had little...

    Heads getting hot

retarded timing can put the hottest flame / fire in the heads and exhaust rather than the cylinders where it should be.See if your headers glow excessively in the dark.

ET'S with ported J/or other iron heads SB

i didn't read this whole thread but the stock NHRA classes have many 340 A body's in the 10's using stock iron 2" x and 1.88" valve j heads.Having said that, these are purpose prepped drag cars but I think too many guys think the sun sets on heads and cams.

Not a racer but asking a cam question.

exactly the way i like to see them, most people walk on by my car without a glance. As for the cam, keep it around .220 like Rumble suggest with hi lift and your manifolds will be fine.Headers don't benefit cams with short over lap very much.

    67 E code 235 hp Dart GT

just found some internet figures that say approximately 900 67 273 4 speed Darts were sold. I wonder if a good one run 15.5 - 15.7 at 88 - 90 mph?

    Wideband

This is where some find the Edelbrock carb is a good fit.Using their guide it is very easy to tune each circuit seperately. Having said that i found it impossible to clean up the idle on larger cammed engines...they just seem to create too much uburnt fuel at lower rpms. ...maybe it's me?

    Wideband

I have played with mine quite a bit on different vehicles. On my current dart i was running around 15.2 while cruising, a nice 14.5 at idle and around 12.5 at wot. As users know these are averages because of the constant fluctuations.Car ran great and didn't overheat with good mileage. I have...

    True horsepower?

so a 1969 440 GTX was rated at 375 hp. Would this be at the crank with accessories operating?

    True horsepower?

Most performance threads end up in a horsepower discussion. .. there is a dyno number which means no.. fan, water pump, alternator, fuel pump, air cleaner or exhaust and usually through open headers. .. a net rating (with the above accessories) .. and rear wheel horsepower which would also include...
