what transmission to use with new hemi 5.7

Don't forget if you get rid of the factory FI, you will then have to run spark control from a different controller. There is a distributor setup out there that was made for the Nascar version of the G3, but its something like $2000 just to be able to run the mechanical distributor. I linked...

what transmission to use with new hemi 5.7

I didn't mind doing them at all, but I like building stuff. I cut off the old mounts from the k-frame completely and started over. I probably could have just bought the TTI conversion mounts in hindsight since they are pretty inexpensive.

what transmission to use with new hemi 5.7

The last post was 2012, so yeah, I did that a while ago. In my case I hand built my own exhaust from the manifolds, really wasn't that bad. The only problem I had was the drivers side manifold was really close to the steering box and I had to modify it to clear. I had planned to make headers...

    2004 truck 5.7 core

No worries. I had an 04 and my 03 engine both say 5w-30. I also know the cam phaser and MDS solenoids like the 5w20. So I suppose it makes sense that when they went to MDS they switched to 5W-20. Thanks for the correction.

    2004 truck 5.7 core

FYI 5w-20 oil only applies to VVT engines (09+) earlier engines were 5w-30. Also worth noting that most 03-04 engines didn't have this problem, Chryco changed seat vendors for sometime in 05 and it took a while for the problem to become apparent. So if looking for a replacement set of heads...

    545rfe ?s

I don't think we were talking about the controller side of it. We were discussing its ability to hold up to the power demand of a 6.1. I believe people have done stand alone controllers.

    545rfe ?s

Nobody is saying its a bad transmission. But in stock form it doesn't hold up well to a 6.1L's output. You could talk to a transmission builder about performance options to help it hold the power output or find another alternative. But for me, I'd never put an auto in my car...

    Gen III Hemi swap help.

I priced out getting to right around 450 hp. a 5.7 in running condition ranges from 800 to 2000 bucks depending on source and miles. the cam swap will run you around 800-1000 depending on parts sourcing and that is for cam, lifters, springs, retainers and push rods. Engine installation...

    545rfe ?s

I have a TCM out of a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the shed and it will give the 45RFE the extra gear (545RFE). They are the same trans and yes I did test this. At the time I used it in my 2002 Dakota with the 4.7. I don't see any reason you couldn't use the 2003 Ram controller or the jeep...

how to make a 6.1 spin safely 7500 rpms?

So I can see both sides of both arguments. Arguably the old 340 is a great choice with a forged crank factory in the early days. Looking at later model LA's they were sort of crap. Cast crank wasn't fantastic but not terrible, low compression and not the greatest rods either. Head flow was...

    6.1L Hemi with T56 build

I believe you. I never spent any serious time checking clearance since I'll be building my own headers eventually. Though I did note that both of them worked to start the engine which was something I was unsure of before giving it a try.

    6.1L Hemi with T56 build

That starter is the same size as the 318/360/3.9 v6 starter and makes no difference. Maybe a tiny amount of clearance. One note of difference, the Ram starter uses a push lock connector for the solenoid while the small block magnum starter is just a stud and nut so no need for a special...

Lower Block to Bell housing Bracket

I just wanted to fill you guys in, anybody who does a swap like mine with an NV3500. The structural dust cover off of a Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi with the NV4500 fits like a glove.

I have a complete 2003 5.7 Harness from a truck. It is missing one of the intake connectors (big connector to interface with the intake harness) but other then that its complete. $60 + shipping and you can have it. please PM me if you want it though as I spend most of my time on FBBO and...

Lower Block to Bell housing Bracket

Yup thats the one. Though I now think it may not work for me and I might have to make my own. My application doesn't use a stock transmission that was ever put behind the hemi and in looking at the bolt circle it appears the lower bolts are different. So I think I have to come up with...

Lower Block to Bell housing Bracket

Does anybody have that cast aluminum bracket that bolts to the bottom of the block and then also attaches to the lower bell housing? It would have come on any truck motor or durango with a stamped steel oil pan. The aluminum pans have this feature cast into them already. If anybody has one...

    Hemi - 5speed - hydr clutch system

I am using the same dakota setup and bought my parts separately. I am going to use: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-641001/media/images and make my own hose to connect the two. I have heard without the bleeder you can bench bleed the system by pointing the master so the hose is in the...

    Beware: Plum Floored Creations....

Are you telling me it took 3 years to get your charger to the state in that photo? I replaced a ton of sheet metal, fit up a late model hemi and trans making my own mounts and am only the paint work behind where yours is at and have done that in 2 years in my driveway while working 40 hours and...

    A v6 Curiosity

I vote 3.9 v6 for an easy swap. Its based on the LA motor so you can bolt up any small block trans (including a 4 speed). I would probably use the entire drivetrain package and electronics, fuel system out of a 92-95 dodge dakota. They are simple and should be easy to trim the harness down...

    TTi Mounts - clearance

I say if you are worried build your own motor mounts. Heck it took me 1 afternoon to get my engine mounted the way I wanted. You just have to be willing to cut the old motor mounts off of the k-frame. And it was cheaper then buying the tti's. Though if you plan to run TTI conversion headers...

bare minimum need to start hemi 5.7 out of car?

I think they put out slightly less than 58. I was intrigued to find out with my service manual that the 03 hemi had a lower psi requirement then subsequent years though I do not have my book here at work so I can't truly answer.

what transmission to use with new hemi 5.7

I agree, its not perfect, its torque handling capacity is a bit weak but at the cost of a bell housing I will give it a shot. Glad to hear you are getting the Passion you'll have to keep us all up to speed on how it goes.:happy1:

    Re-pin vs splice

I have an 03 harness from a Ram which is missing the plug that connects to one of the connectors on the intake manifold. But the plugs you need should be on there. I'd sell the whole harness for $60+shipping. Other then that I'd say try a salvage yard. Some of those connectors are common...

bare minimum need to start hemi 5.7 out of car?

It will run without 02 sensors just in closed loop. crank/cam signals, fuel injectors, coils, throttle is about all you truly need plugged in to make it fire. A stock truck pump stuck in a 5 gallon pale running a line to the fuel rail will work. The stock pumps have a built in fuel pressure...
