The topless adventures of Cuda Al

When Alan sets out to do something, it happens rapidly. I'm all for this project, even though I didn't really have problems with the slant (other than dropping in a rebuilt 68 unit because of massive oil consumption). Since it no longer has the original engine, and I carried out other mods like...

    Radio speaker connection..

You could just make a short adapter piece using crimp-on connectors at each end, appropriate to the two items you need to connect. That should work fine for the radio — it's not high amperage and you don't get a lot of corrosion up under the dash.

    Radios

Pretty sure Dana is right. 67s were all chrome all the time. Then the Feds stepped in with regulations that discouraged bling that might blind the driver. It was never a trim level thing.

    Need New Drums

The measurement of a drum diameter is done to the inside diameter of the drum — the braking surface. Measuring from the shoes is approximate at best, since it depends on wear. However, it is probably close enough to tell the difference between 10 and 11 inches — there are no 1/2-inch sizes. The...

    Decode this vin! 67 Barracuda

As a 273-4bbl car, it would have the single rectangular cutout. As a Formula S car, it would have HD suspension, including uprated torsion bars and rear springs, anti-sway bar and 14 x 5.5 wheels.

Do green bearings move the wheel out?

Not that I noticed, based on the spatial relationship between the brake drum and the backing plate.

    Valiant front clip swap?

Those might bolt on, but the body lines won't match up. The Valiant doors are flat with a crease, and the Barracuda doors are totally rounded with a different line near the top edge — there would probably be a noticeable gap at the front edge of the door. Dusters are closer to the Valiant but I...

    Frame swaps

What he said. I have seen things like a 68 Charger body grafted onto a new Hellcat, but this is really a complete custom fabrication job — it is in no way a "frame swap". If you just want a modern Hemi engine swap, that has been done a lot. There is a specific forum for it, even.

Plymouth Factory Service Manuals... something odd.

Yes, of course. The 67 covers Valiant, Satellite, Fury but not Barracuda. The 68 covers all 4, so the body section should have more pages, right? In terms of engines and options, I am not sure which year would cover more items. They added the 340 in 1968, so that's one more engine... they...

Plymouth Factory Service Manuals... something odd.

Interesting that the 68 manual has more pages but is slimmer. I guess that means they printed it on thinner paper to save money. I'm also wondering if one of my manuals is a reprint (not a recent Faxon reprint, but not a first edition). It seems especially weird that the 67 body section has 10...

Plymouth Factory Service Manuals... something odd.

I could, but before doing a page-by-page comparison, I thought I'd ask if some resident expert already knew the answer. I did note that the chapters seemed to be identical, so it's not like they left out a whole section. Possible answers based on Mopar general knowledge: – there were fewer...

Plymouth Factory Service Manuals... something odd.

I am looking at the 1967 and 1968 Plymouth factory service manuals sitting side-by-side on my shelf, and I just noticed that the 1967 manual is over 1/2 thicker than the 1968 manual. This seemed particularly weird because the 1967 manual does not include Barracuda, which was issued as a separate...

Wheel house carpeting on Fastback Barracuda's

The 67 brochure I have does not exhaustively list every feature of the interior decor option. But the text never mentions wheelhouse carpet, and it is not shown in any of the photos.

    Tire Jack Assembly Colour?

That looks just like my 67's. Black jack head, base, hook and tire iron. Natural finish on the post.

    350 to 360-doable?

That's right, I was thinking of Fords. It could be as simple as just drilling four holes in piece of 1/4" stock, to use to laterally compensate for the position of the mounting studs.

    350 to 360-doable?

I'm guessing the big problem will be the same one that caused Chrysler to cancel the Sunbeam Tiger when Chrysler bought Rootes Group — the small block Mopar has the distributor at the back of the block. In the Sunbeam, the back of the small block Ford engine is tucked under the cowl — the...

    2 door carpet fit a 4 door??

Yes, obviously there would be a difference in how it fits along the sills, but the carpets I have installed had 4-6 inches of extra material on the sides and rear, so you should be able to make it fit no problem.

    what is this car?

He's not taking about the 300SL. He's talking about the blue racing Morgan in the background. Actually, the Morgan came with a Trump 2liter 4, but it also came with the 3.5liter Buick/Rover V8, and that model was pretty damn fast. Practically no suspension compliance, however, so a rough ride...

What in the world are these Barracuda emblems for??

They remind me of the "Plymouth" logo center cap on the bolt-thru wheel covers (sometimes called "Formula S" wheel covers, though they aren't necessarily). I wasn't aware that there were ever Barracuda-specific wheel covers, however. But I don't see how that could be a trunk emblem with the...

    Windshield swapping

However, the windshield from a 67-69 DART hardtop would interchange with Barracuda. But there were no Valiant hardtops.

    Not a A...but a C-bodie , always beem a A-bodie guy; worth it ?

C bodies are kind of their own thing. Parts support is not as good as A and B bodies. But you get a whole lot of car for the money. If you have the space for it, you can enjoy the classic American full-size experience. If I had the space for it, I wouldn't mind one.

Differences Between '67-'68-'69 Barracuda Notchback/Convertible Trunk Lids

To clarify: convertible and notch are the same, but all three years are different. The main problem is where the 67 lid has stud holes, the 68 would have exposed painted surface, and vice versa. The 69 panel covers the entire rear surface, so you could use either of the other two lids on a 69...

    Targa 'Cuda

There was an "official" first generation Barracuda "targa" (they called it a "Landau") designed by the factory stylist and exhibited at shows. This made sense because there was no convertible at that time. The second generation had a convertible, and the fastback would not have worked for a...

    67 barracuda convertible(not mine)

Doesn't state engine. Absence of a V8 badge suggests it is a slant. But who knows? The alloy wheels suggest it is converted to BBP, unless he just crammed on a set of 5 x 100mm rims (actually on second glance, I see 10 lug holes, so maybe he had them drilled dual-pattern). Very little detail...

    I Wanna Talk About Barracudas

One other obscure difference: 67s with the 273 Commando (which could be Formula S or not) got a unique rear valance with a single driver side rectangular cut out. Standard valance had a single round cutout. 383-S had dual round cutouts. The 273 was dropped in 68, but the 340-S got dual...

    I Wanna Talk About Barracudas

Just to elaborate on this oddity, this particular profile distorted the view out the rear window, and customers complained, so they changed it in 68. Same thing happened with the plastic lock strip window trim — customers of the 67s complained about it when it shrank. I have to think that Mopar...
