    1968 AC equipped confusion

About all cars use a valve in the engine coolant line running to the heater core in the under dash box to modulate coolant flow to the heater core to raise or lower heater temperature output. The valve in the coolant line of my non ac 68 Barracuda is cable controlled. I probably still have it...

    Vintage Air or Similar Setup

The Classic Air system that I installed has the under dash box connected to the passenger side ram air box. The driver side air box is not changed at all, the passenger side is the outside air intake.

    Vintage Air or Similar Setup

When I installed the Classic Air kit in my 68 Barracuda I added a simple toggle switch to the line sending power to the compressor clutch. With that I can have outside air coming into the cabin from the defrost or the dash vents without the AC compressor activated. And I agree I like having the...

    Vintage Air or Similar Setup

The Classic Auto Air ac system that I put in my 68 Barracuda reuses the existing non factory AC dash controls to control the Vintage Air ac. So the look of the dash control is absolutely factory OE original. The kit included a new fan control switch that has four fan speeds, and re uses the OE...

    Putting A/C in a formerly-A/C car

just shipping it would probably cost as much remember when you buy a kit from a manufacturer, unless you can arrange a pickup, you pay shipping. You also pay sales tax and their profit margin. Maybe see if the seller will only sell you the parts that you need that are not available new, like the...

    Troubleshooting help needed-AC pressures

When a vacuum is pulled on an AC system that process empties the internal passages of air and moisture and any other gasses in the internal passages. Pulling a vacuum is a good way to verify that the AC system has integrity and does not leak. If it holds a vacuum it should hold the pressurized...

    Removing AC Compressor

Take the tension off the belt and remove the belt from the compressor drive. Remove the bolts that fix the compressor to its brackets. There will be enough flex in the ac hoses to allow you to position the compressor out of the way.

Recommend an AC system for my 68 Barracuda

I have an AC compressor mounted on the driver side, what I did was, have a high and low pressure metal hose made in a Z shape so I could route the high and low pressure hose from the passenger side fire wall through the passenger side wheel well. I then mounted the rubber high and low hoses up...

1968 Barracuda Cooling System Upgrade Questions

I have a Champion radiator in my 68 Barracuda, I will have to dig the invoice out to get the radiator model number. I also have the Contour fan installed. That is a sweet unit. Fits fine. I am running a built slant in my car so the cooling demands are different from a 360, but I have extensively...

Recommend an AC system for my 68 Barracuda

A photo of the AC lines as they exit the firewall and go through the passenger side inner fender. I used steel lines for these two Z shaped connectors, standard AC barrier hose is in the fender well.

Recommend an AC system for my 68 Barracuda

I also did that, to clean up the engine compartment I ran the ac hoses through the passenger side wheel well with one to the condenser and the other hose across the radiator support to the compressor. A bit more length to the hoses but they are hidden.

Recommend an AC system for my 68 Barracuda

Just look at the Classic Air web site. The Classic Air kit that I installed two years ago included a Sanden compressor with a serial number on a label with a hologram intended to make counterfeiting more difficult. I really don’t know what they were doing 5 years ago, but today the Classic Air...

I installed a classic auto air system in my 68 Barracuda. Nice modern compressor, all new under dash ac box.Everything went together fine. Words of wisdom or gotchas for heat & factory a/c during engine rebuild 318 68 Barracuda?

That depends upon how climate controlled the environment is where you will be storing the finished parts prior to assembling the engine. The engine parts as they are upon engine disassembly are fairly impervious to rust. The same block-heads-crank-rods and and other cast iron parts will flash...

    Prestone Every Car Antifreeze

Long as I can remember I used regular Prestone antifreeze, always mixed with distilled water in my older non antifreeze specific vehicles. Bought two gallons of the new Prestone Every Car antifreeze, but I am re thinking that I may take them back and get some other brand that is the traditional...

    AC under hood hose routing

Finishing up the Classic Air AC install on the 68 Barracuda. Heater hoses running across the top of the motor never bothered me, but I would like to route the AC hoses so they are mostly hidden. My thought is to route them to the passenger side wheel well, just out of the firewall. Plan to...

Anyone know what this thing is?

If it worked as you describe it would not be possible to affect (warm) the air out put when AC is selected. But one can affect the cold AC out put by using the Temperature Control lever. The Temperature Control lever blends in air that has passed through the heater core. Only on Max AC and when...

Anyone know what this thing is?

Actually the function of those vacuum units is to close off hot water to the heater core when the AC is on MAX and when the heat/AC is off. In normal AC operation they allow hot water to flow to the heater core.

    Anyone use Vintage Air

Correct, you loose the passenger side fresh air vent, but you gain the ducted and powered bi level vents. My plan is to add a switch to the compressor power line so I can have the bi level vents selected and blowing outside air in with the blower, but not have the ac compressor engaged. That...

from the top of the front core support to the top of the radiator cap

For a second generation Barracuda, (1968) what is the distance from the top of the core support to the top of the radiator cap? I installed a Champion Radiator, and it looks like it is setting too low, the radiator cap is about flush with the top of the core support. I want to raise the...

    Electric fans and A/C

Yes, fan controllers normally have a connection to the clutch on the ac compressor, so the fan runs when ever the AC compressor is engaged, You are correct, you may not need the fan to cool the evaporator at highway speeds, but for the sake of simplicity, have the fan on when the compressor is...
