Cam; I would can the 4 spd idea. You're taking a big bite here. Nothing wrong with a strong shifting 727 or 904. If you miss the 4spd too much, just drop in a reverse pattern valve body and then u can shift the Auto trans manually.

Cast iron 4 speed...Why? Those things weigh a ton. Later years featured Aluminum housing, same trans. Plenty strong, too. Much easier to work on. You drop this thing, you feel it, Big time.

Forget about the 318...a 360 bolts up to the same engine mounts. You'll be SO much happier with a 360 than the bargain brand 318...your Sport will become a Monster...trust me. Been there, done that! You can pick up a decent 360 at almost any Bone Yard, especially one with amble Mopar...
