I have a set of mustang rotors that I machined to fit my KH 10" setup on my 68 dart GT vert. I have come across conflicting information regarding the seal. The original seal is 1.730 ID and 2.340 OD and this is what I machined the mustang rotor OD to. I've read here that someone used a seal...
Well I think using the mustang rotors is not a good option.
I'm not having any success with this using past information.
I suspect this "option" is considered dead.
I just tried to fit up the rotors I machined and they will require a spacer of about 1/4" between the inner brain and the where the bearing seats against the spindle. I have not read about needing a spacer. Has anyone else run into this problem.?
I machined the mustang rotors using a rotary table on a vertical mill. I couldn't get the setup rigid enough to get a satisfactory result in reducing the diameter but I was able to get the hub dimensions machined. I then set up the rotors on my old Burke horizontal mill and got the diameter...
I'd like see if there's an interest in creating the definitive guide to using the mustang rotors as a swap for the KH rotors.
My lathe is a little too small to swing the 11.210" mustang rotors so I set it up in my mill on a rotary table.. I'll do the machining of the bearing/seal areas but will...
I got a set of mustang/raybestos disk for my 68 dart GT vert. Is there any value in the original KH disks or do I scrap them?
I will hold on to them for measurement purposes but, once I'm done with the machining, I'll have no use for them.
Thanks
I use a shop that does the dynamic, on vehicle, balancing and I'm one that thinks it is superior to the the modern style. They also do tire skimming. Whenever I have a vehicle tires skimmed and balanced at this shop I get an awesome ride.
Agree. I may buy or I may make my own but either way I agree it's a good idea to seat and reset the lines/fitting.
I don't hate making my own. I've double flared enough brake lines and I have the proper tools to do it. For this resurrection I really need to to use my time instead of my money...
I should have mentioned. I do have benders of many types but none will bend a tight radius without kinking. Maybe this is why the spring protection is actually used for?
I'm rebuilding a set of 4 piston KH disk brake calipers. I'm looking for advice on how the tight bends are made in the lines for these calipers. I'm also wondering if all the lines get the spiral "spring" protection added to them or just the ones from the brake hose connection.
Thanks
Are the raybestos rotors the strongest rotors available? Seems like a rotor with a solid hub would be better than the web design the raybestos uses??
Is there any concern about the balance of the rotors once the diameter is machined?
Thanks
Can you tell me where you purchased these? Did they come with the hub or did you transfer your own hub? Seem like the hub and rotor would need to be balanced as a unit. Thanks
Yup. I checked the back and it looks like. 790 is the number.
I've read about these twin wall rotors but I don't think I'm going to change them unless the guy turning them says they will be too thin.
I'll have to reread the thin web/1/8"
Thanks. They don't list a FSM for a 1968 dart. I'll look...
I may have damaged the brass tube seat in one or more of the KH calipers I'm rebuilding. I bottomed out some 3/8-28 bolts I was using to plug the inlet while pumping grease to remove stuck pistons. Anyone ever replaced one these? I'm pretty sure replacement seats are available but figured I'd...
I like the idea of the stainless but I can't find a source?? I spent some time on Google and just kept running into a dead end.
Is it correct to assume that aluminum would be a bad candidate?
Do these need to be chrome plated or stainless steel? I can turn my own on my lathe but it wouldn't be worth it if I had to buy stainless or get them chromed. I'm wondering if just mild steel?
Thanks for this information. If you don't mind I'd like to get some clarification. Are you saying the piston and piston bore don't relate as far as sealing goes? The seal is all about the rubber?
I'm starting to get back on my 68 dart gt convertible and I'm rebuilding the KH calipers. The...
Thanks all!
This is a disk brake car. I will look closer at the mustang thread . Im pretty sure i can do the machine worj myself.
Im not into spending the money on the all out system .
