Factory hydraulic roller set up on an older block?

I did a mockup of this very thing for my 67 318. The oem roller lifters are too tall and the oil band cleared the top of the lifter bore with just the stock 318 cam. If you wanted to bush the lifter bores, i’m sure that would correct that problem. But after all that hassle, it would probably...

Making power out of the 318

Depending on the chamber volume and what they actually measure at, you could use kb399’s. They’re domed and could put your compression up higher where it won’t be a lazy low compression combo. What axle, gears and tire size does your car have? That has to be considered for your cam. Stall of...

    3.9 Stroker

Not sure on the un reliable part. Hit or miss perhaps. My 03 dakota with it’s 3.9 just passed 401,000 this week. I bought it new 21 years ago. My daily driver

    318 Idle issues

Glad you’re chasing it down and making progress. I like the 670 holley street avenger. Has worked good for both my mild 318 and my 350

Follow the ring gap instructions. They’re different than from oem specs.

    LOOKIN FOR PISTONS (318)

Kb-167 are zero deck, kb-399 are domed. Need to know your cylinder head volume to calculate your static compression ratio. Is this an 87 octane motor? Premium 91 or 93?

    318 Poly A engine in a 67 Cuda

Have you looked up Bruce Toth or Gary Pavlovich on facebook? They do poly builds. I think Bruce Toth makes adapter plates to mount 3rd gen hemi manifolds to the poly heads

Any 10 second "All Throttle" 318's in door cars ?

Didn’t Bob Mazzolini have a mid 10 sec 318? I thought he raced a few different classes in NHRA in the late 80’s through the 90’s.

    Thoughts on this 318 build

If it’s in the budget, i’d go roller cam conversion. Friend of mine just had one lobe go flat on him after a month installed and running. He did a proper break in and was running vr1 oil and he still lost a cam after just one month. I run that xe268h in my 350 s10 with a 2500 stall and 3.25...

Hydraulic roller lifter questions (LA 318)

When I did this mockup last year I believe, and I unfortunately don’t have those photos, the dog bones are supposed to rest on a recess above the bores and remain stationary. On my block (67 non roller) the dog bones rested on the rollers themselves. I could adjust preload of the spider legs...

Hydraulic roller lifter questions (LA 318)

I did a mock up of oem lifters with spider and dog bones on my 318, 67 block. The oil band came just above the lifter bore. On some blocks, drill and taping may be viable, but on mine in particular it would’ve been just an oil pressure loss. Will be going with the Morel’s when I put my motor...

    comp 268 cam too small.

Xe268 flat tappet? My 350 s10 with 3.23’s and a 26” tires does well with that cam. 2500 converter minimum recommended. 2800 probably better

    Head Identification

If the heads are off or the intake is off, what is the dimension of the intake runner? Height and width? That could tell you if it is a 360 head or not.

    Kb 399’s in a 318

Know this, don’t take for granted that the chamber volume is what any books say. My 360 heads measured at 78, all the books said they should be 68-72cc. Measure twice, cut once, buy parts once and be done with it.

    Kb 399’s in a 318

399’s are domed. Therefor less decking of the heads required to have some decent compression. Measure the heads and use a compression calculator. Go for it

@1Badcolt , my 318 currently is stock internally. D453 headers into duals, msd ignition with 2 med springs, 10 degree initial with 20 mec for 34 total. Eddy performer. Higher stall converter, about 2800-3000. 3.23.-1 gears with 26” tires. The street avenger carbs like my 670 has an...

    318 Build suggestions

Only bore what you need to, to clean up the cylinder. If you can get away with 0.010 then do so. Kb167’s are a zero deck flat top and that will increase your static compression. The thickness and bore of your head gasket and the chamber volume of the head is also a factor and needs to be...

    Big horsepower 318 builds

If I had the parts and money: 12:1 forged pistons, w2’s or ported trickflows, single plane, solid roller .600 or so lift, 750 carb, 1 3/4 3.5” headers on E85. Forget about vacuum for brakes. Build to spin to 8k and wherever it makes it’s power is where it is.
