    Carb experts Please help

Power valve. Are you running an automatic transmission? Check your vacuum reading in gear at idle, divide that in half and that's the power valve you should be running. With a manual trans, just check your vacuum at idle and divide that in half. Check your float level and make sure you don't...

    holley 4160 help. 600cfm.

If you feel lag when the secondaries open, that's due to the secondaries opening too soon and not having enough air velocity to pull fuel through the main nozzles. What you feel is the main nozzles "Crashing In" once the revs come up. Put in a heavier spring.

    Holley jet ?

Don't put your foot into it on a cold engine, it's hard on the piston skirts. Yep, it'll run crappy without a choke when it's cold. Either wait until the engine hits about 160 before you drive or put the choke back on. Pulling the choke plate out may give you a few extra cfm, but it's really not...

Have you done a resistance check on it? It could be failing too. Just a thought to cover all your bases.

Sounds like your ignition coil is starting to crap out. You are running a ballast resistor, correct?

    Holley Jetting question

Excellent advice. If you drop the jet sizes your WOT AFR will increase (lean out). In the meantime I would check vacuum at cruise and make sure the PV rating is below that of your cruise vacuum. Once that is established (PV rating should be 2 numbers below idle vac in drive at idle IIRC) I would...

    Muratic Acid ?

When cleaning motorcycle gas tanks I always used it full strength and sloshed it around. Wear eye protection, gloves and don't breath the fumes! Works like a charm and a lot of people like to follow with a phosphoric acid wash as it leaves a protective coating. Be careful and don't dump it...

    Shallower base/drop plate?

Not so bad I don't think. I've seen some super bad *** A-Bodies run here at Bandimere in the tens with a "Reverse Scoop". :) As long as there's not a freakin' 350 under the hood, who cares? 8)

    Shallower base/drop plate?

Many years ago (80's) I used a Moroso drop base air cleaner that fit great under my Torino's hood with a Holley Street Dominator intake, a Holley 750 on top of a tall 400M engine. Check them out. I've never been dissatisfied with anything I've bought from them. http://www.moroso.com/

    How does my contraption look??

Why was is neccesary to accuse me of getting all my info from a magazine? Wtf? If you responded intelligently I would have responded in the same. Respect is a 2 way street. Lighten the hell up on your responses to everyone and not just me. When I hang out here I think of it as a...

    How does my contraption look??

What in the world are you talking about? The fuel flows from tank, filter, pump, fuel log, regulator then back to the tank. The carb uses fuel from the cool fuel in the log as it needs it, there is no change of direction whatsoever. The less fuel the carb is using, the more is bypassed into the...

    How does my contraption look??

I'm 44 and have been using and modifying Holleys since I was 16, well before BG was making carbs for sale commercialy too. So what. You'll never see boiling with a return style system as I described either. You are incorrect that the regulator is the exchange point, it's the fuel log. Your way...

    How does my contraption look??

By-pass regs are designed to be inline after carbs. The fuel flows in this order: Fuel tank, filter, HV pump, fuel log which feeds the carbs from two ports, then the reg and back to the tank, just like on many fuel injection systems. Keep in mind there are "dead head" style FI systems with no...

    How does my contraption look??

A return line is used with a by-pass style regulator on a carb'd car. One line in and one slightly smaller line out for the return. The advantages are less stress and a cooler running fuel pump and a cooler supply of fuel to the carb. It will eliminate any chance of vapor lock too. The only real...

    How does my contraption look??

Glass breaks. Imagine what would happen if you broke a fanbelt or got into a front end collision. Spin the entire reg around so the fuel inlet points towards the fender, put a metal filter on it and mount it to the fender. Yeah, the adjustment screw will be a bit harder to get at but you really...

    PCV breathers for my engine???

Under WOT the PCV system does not draw but crankcase pressure builds and it will then be pushed back through the crankcase vent into the air cleaner to be burned with the incoming air. If you had no hose, it would barf all over the engine and compartment. Of course a good tight engine has...

What jet and pv size on a 4150HP on SB?

You should be OK in the PV department then but you can always drop it down one size and see how it runs. If you get a puff of black smoke on take off, you can go with a smaller squirter and it never hurts to experiment with jet sizes. The lighter the car, the higher the gear (numerically) and...

What jet and pv size on a 4150HP on SB?

Check the vacuum with the car at idle in gear with your foot on the brake if you have an auto trans. Note the reading, divide it by two and that will be your correct PV size. http://www.holley.com/data/TechService/Technical/power_valves.pdf Holley has a wealth of tuning info on their...

In 73, did the gas tank vent to a charcoal cannister?

If the cap was not replaced with a vented one, fuel starvation will be an issue. Yep, using a filter on the vent works fine.

In cold moist weather you can get throttle plate icing too. These manifolds are best used on summer drivers.

    DP secondaries

Yes, that's the one. It's odd that it's gone out of adjustment. Check to see if the slotted plate on the secondary shaft is loose. They are only staked on. If it is loose, you should really pick up another throttle body from Quick Fuel or Holley.

    Holley Idle Screws Not Responsive

Most likely the primary throttle plates are too far open and are exposing the transfer slots. This happens when an aftermarket cam is used and the idle screw needs to be cranked down for it to idle. There are two resolutions: A: Not enough initial timing. B: If you have dialed in enough...

I got E-10 woes with "Charlotte"- water in gas and looking for a permanent fix!

Hello Mike, I'm originally from IL where they have been selling E-10 since the 80's and I never had a running problem with any of my vehicles. It's humid as hell there too. I always bought name brand fuel and skipped the budget stuff. BUT, metal gas tanks would rot out pretty quickly there...

What's your combo? If you have both, I'd run them each at the strip and see which one gives the most mph on the slip. Nice dilema to have BTW. :)
