    416 issues - losing patience

What radiator cap are you running... I have been battling overheating. I have a new Wizard Radiator and had bought a nice looking billet radiator cap for it. Found out the cap was barely rubbing the bottom of the hood, so I swapped on a cheap parts store radiator cap I had laying around...

    Strange combo

That is what started the stroker craze... You would need to turn down the top of the pistons too based on the compression you wanted. But now, instead of having to locate a 360 crank and having it turned down, you just buy a stroker crank and stroker pistons for less and build what you want!

hi all need a little help

Electric or mechanical fuel pump? With this crappy fuel, I'm having problems with fuel boiling with my mechanical pump. Hasn't quit on me yet, but it has gotten to the point I lose power and the bowls will empty and stutter some. I'm going to convert to electric pump with return to try to...

    blueprint 408

My suggestion would be to collect everything you need for you stroker by asking the right questions, researching the parts, and if you can't build it, take it to a machine shop you trust and that can do the work you are looking for. I had my stroker 340 built for $3500 (bought a '73 340 for...

Yeah, I don't think I could get away with a 2.5 hour drive with open headers!

    Mild 416 Stroker

Well, I finally have it running in the car! Next week I'm trailering it to Raleigh to have RJ Custom Piping build me an exhaust system for it. Here is a video of it running. It still needs some tuning and until it gets mufflers, I can't take it out on the road. Lots of idling right now and...

    67 cuda 340 engine swap - thoughts

I have installed a 1973 340 block (stroked to a 416) in my 68. I did what you are talking about- used my 318 timing cover, used my 68 318 balancer and installed the bolt on pointer. You can find those on ebay all the time. It is easier than trying to find a cover with the cast in markers. The...

Best 416 small block, 727 auto, TTI installation order?

It is in!! Thanks guys! Went with 1.engine, 2.tranny, (work on cooler lines), 3.headers! BOY WHAT A TIGHT FIT!!!!

Best 416 small block, 727 auto, TTI installation order?

Oh, the pulleys and pump are off. I did put on the front A/C brackets on there as they don't seem to be in the way. I'm afraid of using a carb lift plate on this older aluminum intake- I'm not sure if the bolt holes are strong enough to support the engine. I am looking to see if I can...

Best 416 small block, 727 auto, TTI installation order?

Coming up from the bottom isn't an option now. Still a roller. As for going from top, it sounds doable if I lay the headers in. I took out the tranny first, then the engine. I may do what you said and go with headers, engine, then tranny. I am having a guy with a 2-post lift helping me...

Best 416 small block, 727 auto, TTI installation order?

Ok, I'm at the point where I can now drop in the new engine, new 727 transmission, and install the headers. This is a power steering car and was originally a 318, 904 car. I have all new 340 mounts. Hood is off. The question that keeps going through my head is in what order. I did a search in...

    Shaved 360 J heads.

Nevermind... I read it wrong... lol. A 360- duh... -Yes, you can shave the heads to raise compression. If you get radical with the cut, you will also need to shave the intake and get custom pushrods.

    Shaved 360 J heads.

What are you putting them on? A 318? 340? 360? That will make a difference.

    408 horse power?

Yeah, I thought about a different intake and heads, but I was keeping things cheap and wanted the motor to have more of a "stock" look to it. (Yeah, it won't look stock to any Mopar guy). I was also concerned with location of my A/C compressor and how many intakes move around the heater...

    408 horse power?

Read my thread on my 416 stroker. Simliar build to yours. I used my stock 360 heads with a light cleanup, XE484H cam, LD340 intake, and 750 Edelbrock. Best pull at machine shop was 420hp and 475lbs of torque. Last pull (in video) before I took it home with 14" chrome aircleaner was 408 hp...

    Red

1968 318 amd 340s were red. The turquoise(blueish) 340 didn't start until 1969 (there are those with late 68's that would disagree). My factory 318 had a red dipstick, spring, and transmission tube/dipstick. I do have to ask why the tranny dipstick in installed in the bottom of the tube (see...

    comp cams

Mine are the older Comp Cam set. Got a DEAL on them when I found them dusty on a shelf here in Chevy country. I guess someone must have ordered them and then didn't purchase them.... Anyways, I got them for less than $200. Had to use cupped pushrods (these didn't come with the cupped...

    Mild 416 Stroker

The idea was to bring the hp and torque down to a usable RPM level especially since I'm driving it on the street with an automatic and 3.23 positraction. I wanted that seat-in-the-pants big block feeling without sacrificing the handling, powersteering, and A/C. By the way, who would guess...

    Mild 416 Stroker

My dad just called me at work. He has posted my engine dyno run on YouTube. I'll get him to upload it straight to my account later and add it to my website. I can't see it here at work, so I'll just put the link in there. YouTube - Rob's 340 Stroker Dyno Run.wmv
