Oops on the main cap torque

I did, in fact check clearances (at the same 100 ft/lbs) before assembly. And it looks to me that I'm the first one in the motor, so they haven't really had a lot of clamp load cycles. Besides, the assembly pass had new bolts on #2 and #4 mains for the windage tray. I just went out to the...

    Gasket matching question

Hey Bruce, I just SAW the thank you button and did so! Still learning the ropes here, I am, JD

    Gasket matching question

My gasket has a pretty precise centering boss that keeps it in place. Yeah, I thought I'd try a scratch awl, too, to get more definition on the end line of where I ought to grind to. I just kinda wanted to see that whole area in black. Thanks, JD (I'd thank you "officially" but I've never...

Oops on the main cap torque

I misread the torque spec for the main caps on the 318 we're building. I torqued them to 100 ft/lbs instead of 85. Should I back off and re-torque? Or just let it be? Or get new main bolts and re-do? Hard to imagine that just 15 extra ft/lb would stretch the bolt too much, but I'll defer...

    Gasket matching question

Gonna try to gasket match my cylinder heads and Edelbrock Performer (old) 318/360 manifold.... casting 714, very similar to 302. See pictures below. (I hope they come through, this is my first try at attaching pics.) First one should be the cylinder head intake port, and the second one...

    Frankenstein318

Whoa! Timing will NOT make one cylinder run different than the rest! (Unless you have an inaccurate distributor - rare, and can only really be seen on "Raster" view on an ignition scope... unless you take other steps, which I won't go into, because it's SO unlikely.) That cold exhaust...

    Cylinder head casting number comparison

Hi all, I'm new to Mopar. Rebuilding a 318. I'm advised to get "302" casting cylinder heads. I like the idea. O'Reilly's Auto has rebuilt cylinder heads, Part # 2D31, that says they're either 302, 646 or 714 castings. I asked, and they won't let me specify that I want ONLY the 302...
