alright guys! i figured it out. its not good. but at least now it wont drive me crazy. i need to resize some pictures real quick then i will post them. anybody got another guess before i put pictures up?

well heres where im at on the truck. i pulled the tranny to see if that was it. but it wasnt, so i pulled the timing cover off. the front seal looks fairly new, still rubbery and soft. i also checked for scrape marks but didnt see anything unusuall. so today im going to pull the pan.

nope. i guess the trucks that came with poly 318's and 4 speeds didnt have balancers. instead it has a really deep crankshaft pulley. wierd huh?

thanks for the replies everyone. the strange thing about this engine is it doesnt have a balancer. just a crankshaft pulley. but maybe thats rubbing on something. its just strange because the noise comes and goes, oh and it only does it once the engine warms up.

i get about 20 mpg with my poly in my 65 sweptline if i keep it around 55-60 mph. thats with the stock 2 bbl carb.

i have the holley conversion kit on my car, there are a few conpanies that make conversion kits, but the speed shop by my house had the holley kit. works nice and you dont have to deal with those plates anymore.

did they break the cam in for you? i have always been told if you dont break a cam in right, you will screw it up.

do you have the plastic gear on the ditributor still or a bronze one. we had a plastic one break. we changed the timing chain and it still wouldnt run. finally pulled the dizzy out and most the teeth were broken off the plastic gear. lesson learned. i would check that first since its the easiest.

so are you saying the air in the gauge damages it? i thought the hamster was what powered my car.

how do you bleed the air out? just run the motor with the line diconnected from the gauge? and this may sound dumb but how do i insulate the tube? sorry i just havent done this before.
