360 Engine Build Guidance (Boost Maybe?)

It’s definitely a trade off and compromises have to be made but turbos can make for a great street car. Mine is a 5.9 with stock cast crank, 10.5:1 forged pistons, gapped rings, etc, etc. 3.23 gears, a very street friendly 9.5” converter and I can drive it 60 miles round trip to the track and...

360 Engine Build Guidance (Boost Maybe?)

Don’t get too greedy with the boost and you’ll probably be fine with your starter motor. The problem is, we all get greedy and want to turn up the psi. Lol

    What will I need 6 to a 340 on a 66 Dart?

Center link is the tough one. -Schumacher makes (or made) motor mounts. -Aftermarket radiators are available. -Aftermarket pedal and throttle cable if you’re inclined or can’t find the factory V8 one. -same for t-bars the good news is the k-frame is the same for both slant and small block.

    408 or gen 3 hemi

My vote is Gen3. I'm still gathering parts but I picked up a 6.4 block and heads a while back. You could roll a golf ball through the intake ports on the heads they are so huge. The 6.4 BGE would be a great foundation. It is found in RAM trucks (and SRTs) from I believe 2016 forward and is the...

'65 Barracuda 273 engine install from underneath body

I installed my first smallblock in the 65 that way. Just bare K-frame without any suspension components installed. I used the engine hoist to lower my car down on to the engine/trans/kframe package. Was super easy. Even easier with a lift I would imagine. And I used a Harbor Freight dolly.

Anyone ever run Speedmaster Heads on their small blocks

Excellent, thanks for that info! What happens with the Magnum hydraulic roller lifters and hollow pushrods? They will continue to pump up and push oil up the pushrods to the LA style rockers on top of the normal LA oil passage in the block oiling the rocker shaft. Is this bad, or does it not...

Anyone ever run Speedmaster Heads on their small blocks

So how does one make these Speedmaster heads work on a 5.9 Magnum with the LA oil provisioning holes? I have a '94 block and just realized it has the oil holes from the factory. I'd like to stick with my hydraulic roller setup and use the LA style shaft mount rockers. What needs to be changed if...

Stock magnum bottom end with tricj flow heads what cam?

Wiseco PTS527AS 10.5:1 piston, sits a little in the hole. Cant remember exactly how much but I measured and wrote it down somewhere. This is my new turbo build and will be using the EQ heads for now.

Stock magnum bottom end with tricj flow heads what cam?

I believe so?Judging by other pics I've seen this block does have the LA type oil holes for the heads. It's all put together and sitting in the car already with the EQ heads on it but the Speedmaster and Trick Flow heads are getting my attention.

Stock magnum bottom end with tricj flow heads what cam?

To the OP, what year is your magnum? After reading about all of these new alum LA heads I've been wondering how I could make them work on a 5.9 I just built when I realized it's a '94 and going back over my pics I see it's already drilled for LA head oiling.

Stock magnum bottom end with tricj flow heads what cam?

According to the trick flow specs; https://www.trickflow.com/parts/tfs-61417801-c00 Notes: Magnum engines must use Harland Sharp S72025K (1.5 ratio) or S72026K (1.6 ratio) shaft mount roller rocker arms for proper oiling. Those rockers by themselves are pretty pricy.

    Oversized thrust bearing

Quick update: I had my other crank balanced. Machinist charged me next to nothing and appologized for missing the problem with the thrust surface on the last one. I got it installed and the thrust is now spot on. Thanks again for all of the recommendations.

    Oversized thrust bearing

Thanks. Im considering that also. All of the Bob weights are marked on the pistons. I'm calling my machinist next week to see what he says. Maybe he'll cut me a break on the cost even though he's already pretty economical. I paid $250 to have it balanced last time. I feel stupid for not catching...

What factory Spark plugs for a 360 Magnum question.

If this is for your turbo build, I use the Autolite 3922 gapped at 0.020. I think it's two steps colder than the factory spec plug.

    Oversized thrust bearing

Is there a source for oversized thrust bearings? I made a mistake and had my 5.9 magnum assembly balanced without checking the crank thrust first. I put the crank in to discover it has 0.020 of play when measured at the snout or with a filler gauge between the crank and thrust surface. I...

    Magnum shortblock capability.

Factory short block 5.9, EQ Heads, AirGap, camswap and good carb (and headers) make for an easy low to mid 12 second Abody. There are a few of us that have done it. I love my junkyard 5.9 magnum. It is turbo'd now and I've been running it at around 6psi for a couple of years which I believe...

    fitech base timing

I'm running really low boost on mine, around 5psi, so not a fair comparison but have my base at 18 degrees which is where my motor likes to start at. Fitech controls the rest by adding (at cruise) or removing (under boost). I think a better performing way would be to set the base as close to the...
