Wouldn't a dragging clutch cause all sorts of grinding noise when trying to shift ? I currently am having an issue down shifting to 1st unless I am rolling.

You will have to change the bell housing and probably the fork also. you will have a better highway experience, but will suffer a little around town as the gear ratios are pretty spread apart which makes the upshifting and down shifting more difficult.

I have a 833od behind my 340 and I hate it. Shifting up is hard, shifting down is really hard and the OD gear is noisy. I can hit 60 in 2nd gear with 3.55 rear. and first is only good up to 30. I may have gotten a bum OD, but nun the less I am switching back to a standard 833.

HAve you called brewers yet, they will likely have any part you need, or at least know what part you need to get.

I have a 340 with a iron 833 OD with a center force clutch in my 64 dart, I called brewers and they sent me a different fork pivot and Zbar. Seems to work fine except it hits my headers at the top. Petal pressure is minimal and I removed the clutch return spring.

I have the iron 833od 4 speed and it is not made for fun. The ratio's are way too far apart and it make the shifting difficult and downshifting almost impossible. I have 2 of them if you want to find out for yourself I let them go at a reasonable price. :)

Is there any reason to not stud out the 4 transmission bolts ? I know it is really really important to use long bolts.

Plus I am not sure what speed they spin driveshafts to balance them, but I would hope it is higher than the actual speed they will be used at. and they should be quiet and balanced up to that point.

WHat? Drive shafts speed is related to the rear-end ratio and tire size and not the transmission.

If it is the drive shaft it shouldn't matter what gear you are in, the vibration would be more related to the speed. Now granted you probably will still get more vibration under load.

I bought a modified Zbar from brewers and both sides hit the headers (DOUGS). I suspect I will have to take it back out and do some bending on it.

If you swap out your iron bell housing for an aluminum one, DO NOT REUSE the bolts that held to 833 to the iron bell housing they are about an inch too short and will pull out eventually. Ace Hardware has some nice grade 8 2.25 inch bolts that should work fine, if you cant find original ones.

I think I ordered a set through Autozone. I would check around for that.
