Cylinder head discussion 340 with stock above deck pistons

The heads will definitely be an improvement. BUT, for half the price of Eddy heads, you could put more gear out back and make some suspension upgrades and gain more than the heads will get you. If you’re gonna go in the motor, put a better cam in it. I’m not sure if anybody asked, but what’s...

Cylinder head discussion 340 with stock above deck pistons

So my ‘64 Dart had a ‘71 360 with stock small valve ‘587 heads, H116CP pistons (9.2:1cr actual), a CompCams 268AH10 cam, Eddy LD340 intake, StreetDemon 750, exhaust manifolds, close ratio 4spd and a 3.55fd rear gear, and it ran a 13.50et. Your setup should run better than 13.8s off the bottle...

Cylinder head discussion 340 with stock above deck pistons

I’d pull the spray and work on tuning or driving, that combo should run mid to low 13s without the bottle and mid 12s with the 100shot.

387” W2 Stroker, What should I upgrade next?

An 11sec car often will feel like a 12sec with an automatic, and likewise an 11sec stick car will feel like it might run 10s. The violence of a stick shift always seems to make the car feel faster than it is.

    Is my 340 stroked

…too much low end torque…. I wish that was a problem I had!

    Adjustable rocker identification?!

The only numbers I see are the numbers “380” on the sides of the rockers with the straight edge adjuster screw.

    Adjustable rocker identification?!

i didn’t take pics of the roller tip rockers or the W2s. Just the three LA non roller adjustables. All the 300 cars were either Chrysler FirePower hemis, with iron adjustable rockers, or big blocks. They are not relevant to these rockers in my first post.

    Adjustable rocker identification?!

Well what are they all then?

    Adjustable rocker identification?!

So I own 5 different sets of adjustable rockers for SBM LA engines. One set are original Mopr W2 iron rockers. One set are aftermarket iron adj. rockers with roller tips. The other three sets are regular LA adjustable rockers, but all three are different from one another. One set is standard 273...

    Hypothetical build questions…

This thread has digressed. Can an admin please go ahead and shut it down? Thanks for the help guys, there is some good advice in this thread.

    Hypothetical build questions…

Yes, I was speeding. That’s why I put “70mph+” in my post. Highway speeds are regularly in the 75-80mph range where I live, and I’m not trying to poke along in the slow lane all day at 65mph. Good job with your math though.

    Hypothetical build questions…

The intent for the car would not be fuel mileage. I don’t care what anybody here says, you are not gonna get good fuel mileage with a modified smallblock. 12-14mpg around town is fine by me. The intent for the car would be able to drive at modern interstate speeds, 70+mph, without screaming at...

    Hypothetical build questions…

So, I kinda ended up with a ‘67 Valiant two door in a trade, which I probably don’t need, but I might keep it anyways. So if I keep it, it will be a super low buck driver. Something that I can drive anytime and anywhere on pump gas, highway cruising would be a must, and I would have to put it...

    LD340 MODIFICATION OR NOT?

Open it up! LD340 is a spectacular intake for a warmed over small block. It’s not the Mona Lisa, it’s an intake manifold. Make it work and reap the benefit, haters be damned.

You learn something new everyday. How long will an LA small block hold up at 550 horsepower

So Herb Sr is still alive and kicking. I saw them this past weekend at their museum here in Burlington NC. They are having an open house this coming weekend as well on Saturday. Herb Jr can be a bit rough around the edges and a bit course at times, but he knows Mopar drag racing fairly well...

Power guess on a new combo

The heads were ported by Bud Elkins over 35yrs ago. I imagine the flow 300+. Long term I intend on putting a stroker 416 shortblock under these heads, but I scored this 340 for a great deal, so I figured I’d put it to use.

    Direct Connection Valve Covers

I have had no issues fitting the Chrome DC valve covers on ANY Edlebrock intakes. I have personally had them on small blocks with a LD4B, LD340, Performer 318/360, RPM AirGap, and an Eddie VictorW2. Granted, I always use the thick valve cover gaskets. On second thought, NO they won’t work! If...

    W2 top end.

Oh, and the chambers of the "810" and "810E" casting heads should be open chamber. Same as X/J/O/U heads.
  22. V

    W2 top end.

With the econo W2 heads, only the rockers are unique. The reason they were called "econo" heads, was solely due to the fact that they use the same valves, springs, retainers, and rocker shafts as standard X/J/O/U heads. So it would be way cheaper to put a complete setup together. I'm not 100%...
  23. V

    W2 top end.

Those are the early style of W2 castings. They are the "Econo" W2 heads that do not require rocker shaft blocks. As well as use regular height valve springs. They don't support the same high lift that the full race heads do. Hell of a set of iron heads though. As cast they flow more than any...

Did Edelbrock ever make a LD340 with a choke well?

LD340s were made with one carb flange but it's made so it can be opened up for spreadbore. As far as a choke well, the top picture is as close as you're gonna get. I guess it's made for some type of choke device.

    318 build advise

Nice car!!! Best thing to do is get in and drive it awhile. Then you'll know where to start!

    318 build advise

Maybe 220hp as is. Best thing to do with a $1k hotrod budget, is to put it in a piggy bank and save up enough for more cubes. If you're set on keeping the 318, a rear gear swap would do a lot of good in the acceleration department.

    W2 Intake rocker arm [ OFF-SET ] info needed !!

I'm in need of a full set of W2 rockers, shafts and blocks for a set of Diamond/Elkins square ported "810" W2 heads. Would you be interested in selling a set?

    W2 Intake rocker arm [ OFF-SET ] info needed !!

Those look like w2 offset to me, but it's hard to tell without a tape measure. So are you needing TAs or W2s?

    Worth the change?!

I would shift at 6000rpm with the 360 as it was. I thought if I added the 2.02" valves, 484PP cam and some ARP rod bolts for a little safety measure, I could maybe add 30hp up top and turn it to 6500rpm. Maybe get the duster in the 8.40-8.50 range. I do wanna keep the Duster street friendly so...
