    Edelbrock carb I.D.

I think it would run better and get better fuel mileage with a nice Thermoquad on it, but that is just me. Tiny primaries for low speed smoothness and mileage Huge secondaries for sucking in the hood.

    8 singles on a 1973 340

How 'bout 4 4bbls on a 426 Max Wedge? Just remember that the more carbs, the less vacuum signal. That means the cylinder has to suck in air from a small space and not from a large space like a 4 bbl manifold. Works great on an all-our strip motor but runs like crap lower in the rev...

    vapor smoke?

When the engine shuts off, all the fuel vapors in the hot intake manifold try to escape. That what you are seeing.

    Demon carb questions

Sounds like you float is set to low......jets get uncovered during hard manuveurs and it stalls the engine. Also check the fuel pressure.
  22. yellowdartdave

    Looking for possible carb recommendations...

Get the Thermo rebuilt !!! You don't have to change anything and 800 cfm is nothing to sneeze at. The small primaries are great for cruising and good gas mileage and when the secondaries open up, they will try to suck your hood in.

    Not getting fuel... big issuse!

Take the fuel line off the carb, manually fill the carb with gas, replace the line and try to start the engine. That way you will know if the fuel pump works (if the carb stays full of fuel) and you are not using the starter to prime the fuel system. Cranking a fresh motor over very long is...

What model of Holley is this..

The numbers on the air horn to the right of the air cleaner stud are the numbers you need. The top numbers are the carb #. The bottom are the date codes. When I blow the photo up the numbers go out of focus. You can check the numbers on the Holley website.

72SWGNR................... Your dad needs a warning sign fot that thing. "Remove all loose objects before start-up!" How far in does the hood bow at full throttle? I can just imagine how it sounds.

    12 pack?

I have seen 4 4BBLs on a 383. Made for full throttle running at Bonneville. Try to play with this set-up.

    Removing gas

Fill it up with 91 and go easy on the throttle for a while and you should be ok.

    How old is too old?

Put the gas in some 5 gallon pails and set them outside and let them evaporate. It is not worth the trouble to try to salvage bad gas. If it will mess up your car's fuel system, it will do the same to your mower(don't ask me, ask my boss).
