How not to kill your Torqueflite transmission!

While answering a post a minute ago I was reminded how I learned the hard way about killing an otherwise good 727 one cold winter morning when I was a teen back in the 70s. We had an very good running 383 HP in a 70 Chrysler Town & Country station wagon. I fired it up that morning and let it run...

    ID this old Mopar pumpkin

I have had this old rear laying around for a tractor project since the 80s. It is a 10 spline yoke and 10 spline axle. No pads for a snubber and it has a different bolt pattern than the modern 8.75 housings. It is a 4.10 gear ratio though... I'm thinking it came out of an old Dodge truck.

    8 1/4 rehash?

So to run 3:55 gears in an 8 1/4 I need a carrier that came in what ratio range? Will the pre 97 27 spline carrier work with stock 69-76 8 1/4 A body axles? Does a Dana 44 carrier fit the 8 1/4? I know I've seen this answered in here but I'm going blind searching!!:read2: Belden

    8 1/4 question

I have an 8 1/4 with 2:45 ratio and a set of 3:55 Dakota gears. Is there a shim and bolt kit still available or do I need to swap carriers?
