Are the old 11x2.5" rear brakes hard to come by? are new drums available? I heard they were not.....and people who list them actually don't stock them. any truth?

Nope. No truth at all.

The 11x2.5 rear drums aren't too hard to come by. Not quite as easy as the 10x2.5's, but they came on a lot more stuff than you might think. Drums are readily available from RockAuto, Summit, etc, etc. I've ordered a set from Summit in the last year.

Here's a list of everything the 11x2.5" drums came on. And keep in mind, this is ONLY for the 5x4.5" pattern. They also appeared on a lot of trucks for a lot of years, but most of those were a larger pattern. That only matters for the drums, the backing plates and everything else can be taken off a truck with a 5x5" pattern, you just need to buy new drums (or redrill). And check out how they're listed for mid-nineties mini-vans! Must have been some kind of option, I haven't personally seen them on a Caravan, but I haven't looked either. :D

The backing plates are hard to find and most want a decent penny for em.

They really aren't. I have several sets myself. Some from the local yards, where they're plenty cheap.

Even on Ebay they aren't horrible. $102 for a loaded set of brakes. I've bought from this seller before too, good guy. And if you miss this auction, he lists them pretty frequently. I bought one of my sets there before I found some in the yards.

thanks for the info!

No problem!

I would buy a "loaded" set of backing plates though. Some of the hardware, like the parking brake levers, are harder to come by because they're not widely reproduced. Not a problem if you get a set of backing plates at the yard, just take everything. The hardware kits are available to rebuild the brakes too, but that doesn't include the struts or levers

If you buy a set of backing plates, make sure they're the 11x2.5" variety. There were also 11x2" and 11x3" rear brakes, and those parts aren't as easy to find (but not impossible).

The 11x2 I have only seen on C bodies and the 11x3 is an RT option. I have a few sets of the e brake and anti rattle levers for 11" if you need em.

11x3 are front brakes, 11x2.5 are rear.

I have seen some RT's with 3" in the rear. It was a B & E body RT only option from what I know

Yeah I have a set of 11x2's that are on a C-body 8 3/4 I came across in on of the local yards. Not sure that was the only application but those are the only place I've seen them.

You could definitely get 11x3" rear brakes. They came on the R/T's, at least as an option. Not sure what else they came on, I'm sure it wasn't just the R/T's. Currently reproduced by Centric, #12363016. Not the easiest thing to find but they're out there, I don't personally have a set but I've seen them.

$102 is an very good price. Good info

I'm using the 11x2-1/2" rears and 11"+ discs from a 74 SSP on my 72 Demon. A little extra Whoa isnt a bad thing. Parts for them were available just about anywhere.

Yeah Mother's Mopar has great prices on eBay, I've purchased stuff from them a few times. Always arrives fast, never had a complaint. Great seller all around.

Are you sure the front brakes are 11+"? Only two varieties in stock front disks that fit the 73+ spindles, the 10.98" version that was standard for 73+ cars, and the 11.75" version which came on B/R bodies, but not until '75 and only on the Coronet that year, nothing else got them until '76. Not saying that '74 Satellite didn't have 11.75" disks, but they weren't original.

I run the 11.75" rotors and 11x2.5" drums on all of my cars except my Duster, it has the 11x2.5" rear drums and Dr. Diff's 13" Cobra style front brakes on it. You can't have too much braking power. Especially if you drive it on the street on a regular basis, everyone else has ABS, traction control, and a phone stuck to their ear. :banghead:

Yes, the rotors are significantly larger that the 10+" ones I've yanked from countless F bodies. I had no reason to believe they were not original, looked to have been on there since new when I dismembered the car about 10 years ago. It was just a well worn 74 Satellite Sebring Plus with nothing else modified from "stock".

Maybe a late year production '74? Never know with Ma Mopar but nothing I've seen said the 11.75" brakes were available before '75. Could have been a later dealer upgrade too, the only thing it takes is the rotors and caliper brackets, not even the calipers have to change. So it would have been easy to add if say the owner complained about the brakes on that big old boat. ;-) (j/k, I have a '71 SSP, they're big 'uns)

Only "extra" thing it takes is 15" rims, the big rotors don't clear 14's.

Ive seen a couple a-body 8.25s with 11 inch drums. I have one in my wagon.

I have a few sets of 11x2.5 drums and plate with hardware. Get 60.00pr on the plates with hardware.

11x3 rears only came on Impierials

Had had several B/E bodies with 11x3 fronts and 11x2.5 rears including the 71 R/T that's in my shop now.
