I have a 64 Valiant w stock 13s. I found some steel 14s off of a 66 Cuda. I've searched around on this site and haven't really found what I'm looking for. I want the best, biggest tires for my rims.....any opinions? Thx

On the skinny stock wheels? Probably a 215/70R14. BFG Radial T/As and Cooper Cobras are still made in that size.

If your rims are 6 inch, BF Goodrich radial T/A P225 60 R14 or P215 60 R14 will work, if your working with 5 1/2" then the P215's are probably the better option. If you want a taller side wall go to 70 series, just make sure you have the front wheel well clearance.

Per Coker, the original tires on this car were 700-13, and Coker says they were 25.2" diameter. Both the 60-series tires you suggested are smaller diameter than the 700-13s. (225/60R14=24.7" dia., 215/60R14=24.2" dia.) I'd rule out the too small 215/60R14s. The minimum wheel for the 225/60R14 is 6".

The 215/70R14s I suggested are 25.9" dia. and can go on a 5.5" wheel if that's what he has.

215/70R14 on stock wheels fits fine. That is what was on my car when I bought it a little over a year ago.

I know the difference between a 60 & 70 series tire and don't need to be schooled on it, I've just provided the guy options nothing more. The minimum wheel for a six inch rim is P215 60 or 70 R14

I wasn't trying to tell you anything.

I was just pointing out some stuff the OP might not realize.

Well, I guess you need to be schooled on rim sizes then, as no OE small bolt 14" rim EVER came wider than 5.5"! And who said he was schooling YOU about sidewall sizes anyway!!! Jeez!!!

OP didn't know what size rims he had, 5" or 6" was his thought, I just gave a general reply to 5 1/2" and 6", no where in my response do you see me use the word OE. My response is not being specific, just giving a general overview of a few different options since the exact size was not provided, its speculation.

And my response was aimed at the same vague information provided, that the rims came from a 66 Cuda, and my assuming by what rims a 66 Cuda should have on it!! Sorry I got a little snappy about it!!! My bad!

Its cool cosgig, thanks have a nice day man.

Thanks for your responses. It's probably my fault for not knowing the size of the rims. You guys rock and I appreciate all your knowledge and opinions.

OMG! After all of your awesome advice I just learned that my rims are 4 1/2's!!!! Dang it! No what tires do you recommend?

Here is a picture comparing the stock 13 inch wheels (175/70/13 - tread width 4.9") next to 14x4.5 wheels (185/75/14 - tread width 4.8")

Currently on my car I have 14x5.5 with 205/70s (tread width 5.8" and I feel 215s tread would be 6.4" would have fit as well. On a stock 66 Barracuda

The rears on this are L60-14s or 245/60/14 which are still made by at least one company. They were mounted on 14x7 rims. 225/70/14 is a good rear tire also but will rub on Duster fenders usually unless you crank the torsion bars. I don't recall what I had on the front of this Demon but I think they were either 205s or 195/75s.

I think I would try to find some 5.5 wide rims then you could run a number of sizes. I personally like the 235/60/14's and had those on a set of small bolt rallyes on a 66 cuda and it looked pretty nice!! I dont think you are going to like the 4.5" wide rims but if thats all you have to use then go for it!!

Biggest tire option for a stock '66 Barracuda was 695-14. Which you can still get from places like Coker, but they are clse to $200 each. The specs on a 695-14 tire is: 4.30" tread width, 25.3" dia. x 7.00 section width, on a 5"-6" wheel. I don't know if these can be squeezed onto a 4.5" wheel or not. The closest thing in "metric" radial sizes would be 175/80R14, which can be had from manufacturers like Continental, Yokohama,Kumho, Hankook.

Ifyou're in love with 14" wheels, you'd be much better off finding some 14x6 wheels and putting some decent sized tires on the car.

On a 4.5, the biggest tire you can use is a 185 75 14
