Tax time; we went and saw the accountant. We made 8K more this year and it boosted us up another notch on the tax ladder. Instead of getting back enough to replace the living room furniture, now it's only enough for a large pizza and some drinks.

Oh well....

That's what I was going to say. I had to pay them to many times, now I have somebody do them and I always get something back

Same happened to me. I planned on paying off last years riding mower. Now I can pay off this months fuel bill instead. I need a tax shelter. I guess having a child this tax year will help.

Yea, I've paid the baxxxxds three years in a row. I need a shelter of sort.

Doesn't your house bring in money for you at tax time? This year was the first year I could claim my house fully on my taxes and I got back twice as much this year. I used to own my own business on the side and I purposely made sure is was in the red every year. I think on my best year it only got me back an extra hundred dollars or so. I invested in a chunck of property once hoping to use that as a shelter but I bought it cheap and the taxes on it where like nothing. Than I sold it to buy my house than I got screwed over that year because I sold it for twice what I paid for it. Than because I only owned for a very short time and doubled my money on it I got hit with some other kind of tax.

Due to some annoying delays the house is still in my Mother's estate. I can't claim a dime until THIS year. And besides, my wife read this and reminded me that we have to PAY $19.

At least we pulled in an extra 8k during the year

Yes my house helps me with the taxes. My wife and I itemize and the married allowance in IL is $9500 (I think) and we were over $14k in itemized deductions. The big difference this year was the extra $$ we made this past year. Our income went way up and our expenses stayed the same. Too bad I can't claim the two dogs as dependents.
