I'm looking for an 8-3/4" rear from a 1962 to 1963 b body. A chart here on the site shows it to be 58-1/2" drum to drum. If this is the case, it will solve my wheel fitment issues. If you have one for sale within approximately three hours of Watsontown, PA, please let me know.

Thanks

Just so you know, those rears used tapered axle shafts, not flanged.

Really just going to be using the housing from this rear if it is in fact 1" shorter than what I currently have.
The flanges are different though, so, to use a later type axle shaft, you would have to cut off the end and replace it. Why not not just narrow your existing housing. Either way, you will need new axle shafts.....unless you plan on just using a stock tapered axle setup. Not something I would want to do. Swapping 3rd members sure grip vs non-sure grip and having to shim the end play is a total pain. Same with doing any brake work.

I was going through this thread showing it can be done converting to the newer flanged axles.....is this wrong?

Is it 1" narrower than the '66 rear like the '62-'63 rears are supposed to be? This link: An accurate 8 3/4" rear axle width list says 65-67 are the same.....
Yep … had one in my 73 340 Dart . Came out of a 65 Coronet parts car I had .

Any 8 3/4 will work if you cut it down and move perches . I have done a few and have 2 more for just in case .
