I just bought a '63 GT for parts. I already have a '63 2 door post car. I was surprised to see heater controls are in a completely different location on the GT. The GT has the controls mounted on a pod below the dash and the post car has them mounted above the radio in the dash. I can't imagine why Mopar would have done this. Any ideas?

Could be some sort of air conditioning retrofit that used a delete plate for the regular heater. Pictures will help clear up what this is.

Now that I look at it like this I think someone moved the controls to the top when the aftermarket knee knocker A/C.

Sure looks better in the dash.

The Red car is a 64. I bet the 3rd digit of the VIN is a 4.

It's a '63. Wiper motor hump on the firewall.

Given the other weirdness I've found I wouldn't doubt if they changed the dash.

The car had a manual trans brake pedal and the clutch pedal chopped off.

That's a '63 with home-made move of the controls up to the '64 location. All '63 A-bodies had that crappy little plastic box carelessly tossed under the dash, like "Awcrap, the heater controls! We forgot the heater controls! Where'll we put 'em; this car has to be DONE!".

That sounds about right for the era. LOL

Off topic question for you Dan. How can I determine what size /6 is in the GT?
