So the car is finally running again after nearly a decade long restoration. However, it is running rough and now I see that fuel is leaking out of the carburetor.

The carb is on a 1964 225 /6 and was rebuilt with a kit (dont know which brand).

It is leaking fuel from the bowl vent valve and the gasket that is supposed to seal the upper and lower halves. Looking at the picture it appears that the carb screws have been tightened down to where the tabs have been bent and therefore the surface is no longer flat to create a good seal.

I am interested in ideas to fix this issue as I'd prefer to keep this carb that appears to be original. What would you guys do?

Thanks.

That's easy, it's flooding, now the ? is why.
1) the float level is set wrong
2) the float is junk and too heavy,or taking on fuel 'cause it's not sealed
3) the float is hanging up on it's pivot for some reason, or touching the body
4) the needle and seat aren't sealing due to poor manufacture/design/install
5) the needle and seat have dirt/debris trapped in there
6) the fuel pressure is too high

That is where to start, as for the condition of that poor carb body& cover, it mite
be salvaged w/a lot of work/patience. At least to be functional, but I'd put the feel-
ers out now on FABO for a replacement that's in better shape. Just post the carb#
and there's bound to be one. I have (3) '64 mills, but I believe they're all Holleys.
Good luck!! :coffee2:

Oh, sweet lookin' ride you're puttin' together BTW !!

Thanks for the advice.

As for the top and bottom carb halves not sealing, I picked up some napa gasket material and made my one that is about 3X as thick as the original, using the original as a pattern. fired it up and the side leak appears to be resolved.

Now to deal with the top of the bowl. The carb rebuild contained a new float as i recall so this must be a setting the float or needle issue as stated above. i cant find the float setting gauge so i will search around to see how to set it, there must be a thread here somewhere.

Killer6, thanks, it has been a loooooong time since this car has seen the street and I am just itching to roll it.

a few more shots and the homemade carb gasket.

That's a 1961-'63 BBS you've got there. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. The warped castings don't make the carb unusable, they just mean you'd best double up on the gasket that goes between the top and middle casting. This will usually require buying two carb kits, because while there are several gaskets for this location in the kit, each of them is a different type.
