Hi, I have a 65 dart with a 225 slant six and a auto trans, I believe its a 904. my problem is my car won't go into park. physically on the column it does but not in the trans. it goes into R,N,D,2,1 fine it just won't hold in park. the shifter does feel a bit sloppy. i was hoping that there might be an adjustment that may be needed. i hate to get it rebuilt for such a silly problem because it shifts flawlessly. good thing my e brake works !!!!! any help would greatly be appriciated. thanks !8)

I believe that your transmission has 2 cables, one for shifting and one for park. The park lock cable engages a pawl which locks the transmission. It should be the one going to the back of the trans. Mine did not have an adjustment on the transmission end, and not sure about the column end. (I have a floor shift) Try to inspect this cable and see if its broken or if its engaging the park pawl. I could pull on my shifter end and it felt like it wasn't attached to anything. Actually, it pulled all the way out!

I had the same problem on my 65 barracuda. My cable was broken, so no park, and I had to get a new cable from these guys.

http://www.imperialservices.net/ -Brutally expensive.

You can try Pat Blaise for a used one. tflite_patty on ebay.

Maybe I'm wrong and someone else can jump in here with better info though. Its way expensive for just a cable, but I think its just one year only.

Actually 64-65 had the 2 cable set-up,possibly 63 also... It does sound like the cable broke somewhere. I thought there was another company doing the cables besides Imperial????

I agree with the supposition that it's probably the parking sprag cable. I also see that Commando66 is paprting a 65 with the floor shift. He may be able to supply your replacement.

i had a cable slip off once. get under there and take a look. The shifter will always feel solid even without the cables attached.
