1967 Dart GT Project

I also went through the drum brakes with new springs, shoes, and wheel cylinders.

Now on to the front suspension. I blasted the k-frame, upper and lower control arms, strut rods, added new bushings and ball joints. Painted the steering box too. I picked up a set of disc brakes awhile back so now I have to get the knuckles blasted, and rebuild the brakes. Maybe just clean up and paint. The calipers look new, bearings look good. Rotors have a bunch of surface rust but I will wait until closer to driving to worry about those. The disc brakes also came with a new set of hoses.

good job but i am wondering why is that 8 3/4 third member different then the other ones ive seen

Mind if i ask what gun you sprayed with and maybe a pic of the gun :)

After many years of production service my older paint guns were getting a bit rough, I purchased a set of Devilbiss guns from Eastwood as they had the best prices. They come with a few different tips so they are pretty good. These guns work good for a hobbiest, I probably wouldn't suggest them for daily shop service. I have used expensive Sata Jet guns and can get the same results with a cheaper line gun any day.

If you are comparing a 8 3/4 to a Dakota rear end that is where the difference is.

More progress pics, got the front suspension done now, had to get the car rolling again as I am in the process of moving soon... blasted and painted all the suspension parts, new ball joints, greased the front end and installed the disc brake set up.

Here are some updates on the Dart project.

A friend of mine went with me to Detroit to pick up a complete 440 for the Dart. In the end it was much cheaper than building the one I have... I'll save that one for later lol.

Here is the way the 440 looked when I picked it up. And of course we had to stop in Detroit at the Pawn shop.

Next I cleaned up the 440 and painted it Hemi Orange.. Sorry for the bad pictures they are cell phone shots.

I ordered a new set of Mopar plug wires, new plugs, cap and rotor. The distributor that came with the car was a points set up, but the housing was very nice and clean. Almost new. So I took the guts out of an electronic distributor I had laying around and stuck it in.

I found that the engine already had the 187 pan on it. The pickup tube was far too long and was bottoming out on the pan... good thing I checked. The oil drain plug was actually hitting the pickup too. Off to my parts supply shed I went and had a nice clean pickup tube that was shorter. Worked juuuust fine.

I installed a new torque converter from Dynamic converters. It's a 9 1/2 3200ish stall. I also added a new SFI flexplate from Cope Racing Transmission.

And the engine is set in now. I had a rough time getting things to line up... then I realized the Trans Dapt kit came with the wrong size mount on the passenger side. It's supposed to be much thicker. I realized this when I tried to level the engine. No big deal... I got one at work today for under $5.... so will finish later this week or weekend.

A few more pictures. Got the carb mounted, choke hooked up. Fuel line is run, starter installed. Had to make a few shims for the driver side motor mount. I used the original slant six throttle cable, a little long but with some creative routing it worked just fine. Only trouble spot seems to be a good mounting location for the coil.

Thank you very much. The car has been sitting in this cold winter so I brought a few parts inside to work on. I am running 3.23 gears. The boy will have to fight for it because he is a twin.... guess that means Dad gets to build twin Darts!

Well it's been a long time since I have got time to work on the Dart. I quit my Utility job this summer and got back into body and paint work. I am currently working in the restoration shop again. Since it's winter and too cold to do much outside I brought a few parts inside to work on. I wired up some new lights in my little basement work shop to clean up and restore the parts.

I started on the console buy taking each part off and cleaning them in the bath tub. Not too bad of shape, the front part of the console top has a small hole in it, looks like someone dropped something on it. After I cleaned the parts up I mixed some good two part epoxy putty up and squeezed it in the small hole, and built it up a little on the back side. Next I will put a little body filler over it and sand prime and paint it.

The lid was in much better condition so I scuffed it, painted the lid satin black and polished up the chrome a little. Next I found a good paint that matches the color great, and also from what I have found in research is supposed to have some texture to it. This paint worked good and matches really nice for much cheaper than the Mopar specific color match paints I have researched. Good enough for me :)

Here is the top plate, if fixed the one hole with some epoxy that I had and then straightened it out with a little evercoat filler. I epoxy primed it for good adhesion just because I had a bit left over in the gun at work this week. Then I hit the plate with some trim black, let it dry and masked up the center stripe... then on to the other color. All the chrome needs some polishing so I will take care of that sometime later.

Here is a crack I found in the console, I v'd it out with a small grinder, this will help hold the epoxy in place once I repair it. More to come later today
