OK, I finally have something of a plan.
1) I want to replace the electrical system.
2) I want to order wheels and tires.
17x8 front, 17x11 rear. American Racing Torque Thrust.
-or-
17x8 front, 18x12 rear. Billet Specialties Legacy series Mag.
All else equal, I would probably just jump on the 18x12 option. Of course Billet Specialties does not make a 17x11 or 17x12 damn it.
Problem is tires.
w/ 17x8 and 17x11 I can go with 245/45-17 front and 315/35-17 or 335/35-17 rear.
w/ 17x8 and 18x12 if I go with 245/45-17 front and 335/30-18 rear the side wall on the rear tire would be shorter than the front tire that looks kind of odd.
M&H makes drag radials. 325/45-17 and 325/40-18. Both would be great at 28 tall. Aesthetically the 18 would look better. That much tire in the 17 would visually make the rear wheel look smaller than the front wheel. 28 is the same size as the 325/50-15 on the car now! Drag radials are not really a street or highway tire. I cant imagine they are made to handle extended periods of heat.
The 315/35-17 is 25.7 same height and sidewall as the 245/45-17. The 335/35-17 is 26.2 tall. I guess the 335/35-17 would be OK; the sidewall would be just noticeably taller in the rear. The 335/30-18 is the same height as the 335/35-17. I could go with a 245/40-17 @ 24.7 tall, but it wouldnt quite fill out the fender the same. Maybe a little bit too low profile for my taste. The 245/40-17 would be a good visual match to the 335/30-18. Attached pictures have 245/45-17 on the front for reference. Car sits lower in the back now than in the picture, and I could easily drop it another inch in the rear. What I need is a 325/35-18 or 325/40-18 street radial!
Enough rambling. Any opinions out there?
