Hello FABO -
So, I have been having intermittent issues with starting on my 69 340 barracuda. After replacing a few goodies which did not solve the problem, I believe I have now found the source of my gremlins. I pulled the pulled the ignition switch to replace it and found that the plastic plug on the harness is broken resulting in a less than optimal connection. So... my question is, what is the best way to deal with this issue. The under dash harness does not look bad with the exception of the obvious issue. I was planning on just throwing in a new switch, but that obviously isn't going to solve the problem. I would welcome any thoughts/advice from those of you in the know on this type of issue.
Thanks

Yes, my recommendation would be to get a new/used terminal block and replace it. The terminals can be removed from the old block by depressing the retaining tabs with a small regular screwdriver. As you remove them from the old block insert them into the new block so you don't mix them up!

Sure looks like the 12AWG black wire that feeds ACC has gotten pretty hot and a bit melted.

Replace the connector housing for sure and look at the wire closely.

This drawing set may help you down the road.

Sounds like good advice. I will do that. I've been searching online and have had no luck finding the terminal block new or used. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

I just looked at it, and wiring looks good. No signs of heat or burning in any of the connections. If I can locate the part, I think it should be pretty straightforward. Diagram is helpful. Thanks!

Post a wanted for 1969 ignition switch connector housing.

You may want to Send a conversation (PM) to barracudakid or whitepunkonnitro to see if either has one, used in good condition. The switch itself is one year only all models 1969.

In my opinion, if that number of terminals fit snugly together, a missing plastic keeper isn't a big deal. Many connectors throughout these cars have no type of keepers at all.
Harness connectors were first conceived for terminal orientation and ease of assembly anyway. Off the shelf female spade terminals would make the same connections. Placing them individually would take too long and give room for error.
I wont bet the actual fault is inside the switch itself but it is more likely. Good luck with it.

Looks like you got some hits on the wanted post. Just gotta ask the right way!

Good luck with it and hope it resolves your issue. If not post back what you have done and I am sure you will get some good answers to get it resolved!

I got some good replies and the parts are on the way. Thanks to you and the other FABO guys that replied. FABO is such a great resource!
