Hello,

I'm looking for guidance on how the factory rear seat speaker was installed. Where was the fader switch located on the dash ? Which side the of package tray was the speaker located. Any photos or images of how everything was assembled (grill, bezel, etc.) ? Possible drilling dimensions for the the fader switch ? Looking for any help on how the speaker system was installed. I would love the see photos of other members cars. Thanks "A" Body community !

I don't believe there was a grille and bezel for the rear speaker - just the holes in the package tray from the factory.

I also believe that the single rear speaker was on the drivers side since the other accessory in the rear packed tray was the "Rear Air" defogger, which was installed in the passenger side from the factory in the 'other speaker hole'.

Check an owner's manual for the place the switch is supposed to be installed. This picture is from the '68 Barracuda manual and is what I used to locate my fader switch.

The few I've seen have been on the underside of the dash where it's easy to drill a hole and quickly install a fader switch. But to do a clean job, the dash bezel should be removed. That's not something a flat rate mechanic might want to do if there's a quicker, easier way.

As I remember, my '68 Road Runner with a factory installed rear speaker was set up that way. The speaker was bolted to the steel panel under the package tray from underneath. The sound came through perforations in the fiber package tray cover.

On the other hand, the speaker kit listed for the '69 Dart includs a grille and bezel. Maybe so it can be mounted elsewhere. If the instruction sheet could be found, that would help. I'm going to try to attach a later instruction sheet for B-bodies at the end of the post.

Thanks guys ! This is a big help....I did notice in the part book, it does call out a grill and bezel, so I'm not sure if that was the factory installation or just the accessory install.
