1969 Dodge Dart GTS

That is alot of work! Nice job.

It did take awhile to get all the scale off the trunk pan with a scraper and wire brush. Applying the rust encapsulator stuff with a foam brush and a small roller took alot of time. The foam brushes suck, they break within 10 minutes or so. I am going to try to find a real paint brush to get into the cracks and crevises.

Got some more stuff done today. Cleaned up the floors of all rust and scale. There were no holes that went through anywhere. Then I painted them with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator, I didn't paint everywhere b/c I ran out of paint but the spots that weren't done didn't have rust anyways. Next step is the sound deadner and carpet. I will leave the floors black and have the trunk painted white. I am not painting the floors W1 white at this time.
TIP: when using this paint is use a nice large paint brush with soft bristles. They say to use a foam brush but they break really quickly the paint brush made it way faster.

I got my tires mounted on my wheels today. Fronts are 215-45-17 and rears are 235-45-17, on 17x7" SBP rims. I have to switch over to right hand studs on the passenger side to get them to fit. I just ordered the studs.

I put my wheels on except one that wasn't converted to right studs. Weird. The passenger side and front drivers side were switched to right hand studs already. Anyways these rims were cheap $580 shipped from Ron's Rims on ebay with lugs and center caps and I think they look good. The car will be white so it will contrast well. I should've went with a 245 in the rear it would have fit fine.

I got the left studs replaced today and got all 4 rims on. It was easy to replace them I just tapped them out with a hammer and pulled them through with a lug and washers. I am a little bummed I didn't go with a wider tire in the rear. There is alot of room still. Probably could go 255's?

I got the gas tank dropped and started to remove the rear end. I drained the old gas and the tank is nice inside no rust. I ordered a new 3/8's sending unit.

I am going to pull the rear and clean and paint it. I am going to pull the k member and paint and replace worn parts. Allthough everything looks pretty new.

Question: My car is undercoated I want to freshen it up. What paint should I use?

Kind of boring but I painted the tank with some rubber undercoating since my car is all undercoated. I also got my new 3/8 fuel sending unit so I will install that also. I redid some other parts.

I think I am going to stick with 235's because I have the hotchkis rear leafs and they lower the car by up to 2" and I don't want to rub on the inner wheel well.

I got the rear end out today. I am going to clean and paint it and reinstall it with my new hotchkis leafs, new KYB's and put my new fuel system in. I may paint re-undercoat it while everything is out. There was all new poly bushings in the leafs and the rear brakes are all brand new. There was also a Holley Blue pump already mounted but not being used.

That is a nice car! Can't wait to see more, keeps me motivated on my '69. I put the Hotchkiss leaves on my car and love the way it sits.

So I got a bunch of stuff cleaned, primed and painted. I didn't paint the rear end yet b/c I want to rig something to hang it off the ground and paint it. Painted the brake drums, spring hangers, gas tank straps, and shock plates. I just want things to look good but nothing is going to be show perfect. I am going to drive this thing and enjoy it.

I got the trans out today. It has an aluminum bellhousing. This trans is not original to the car I don't think. I cleaned a bunch of parts and will paint them tomorrow. I think I am going to put new gaskets in the A833. It is weeping a little bit of oil.

Man that Dart has come a long way since I saw it when I picked up the bench seat from you. Great work, keep up the progress! The VIN should be stamped on the pass side pad on the trans. The black wheels, top and stripe are really gonna pop against the white!

Why did they hack the hole in the core support? Looks similar to the Mr Norms Supercharged Demons...

Hey thanks. Did that seat work out for you? I know it was a long drive. I will check the vin today on the trans. I don't know why anyone would cut the radiator support? I have to fix that.

I will tell you that this car is coming apart alot easier the others I have done. I think being in a garage for so long helps. But I think it has been apart in most place before especially the front and rear suspension.

you getting right down into it. Your making me look bad

Ha! I am just trying to keep busy while I wait to see if I got this job I apllied for last week. Got the Bell painted and some other parts. I know this is not techincally the correct color for the engine or bell but it is my car so I will paint it the color I like. Ha! I am going to clean and paint the trans today and I may pressure wash the underside of the car and start reundercoating it today also. More pics to follow.
