First off I never asked anyone to bid. What I said is I would like to get market price, not give away the parts. So, a litte about me, I hate to haggle. I hate to put a price out there and then have a member say "too much for me, with shipping that will kill me....." It is a waste of everyone's time What I prefer is that a member says, I know that part is worth this much but would you take take $$$ and I would consider that and many people on this site know it. I sold a NOS 1967 fender with no antenna hole drilled out for 300$ to a member on the East Coast because he really needed it and that is what he could afford (and I only had that one part available).....hopefully he used it.
but on the other hand, I have to pay the bills on the parts I am buying so if you PM me and can't stomach realistic prices don't make me feel like the bad guy and then start posting negative comments and citing rules of the site.....
And should you choose to believe other members conjecture and not want to buy parts from me and like drama that is not in my control.
As far as the grilles go, I would take 750$ a side complete as they came off the car. Cracked but still together, includes egg crates and retaining brackets and undamaged outside chrome. Remember these are 45 years old or better so they are in old condition but complete.
For me, when I need a part I make the seller a hard offer so I can lock it up and ensure that my search for that part is over......make sure the value proposition is worth everyone's time.
I have parted out two cars over the recent past in support of my major project(s) and sold all over the world as my prices seem to be fair and reasonable. Why do I know that? I have repeat customers and I have very few parts left from those particular sacraficed cars. I am a hobbiest and enjoy helping others with hard to find California non-rusty gold - being I have a reasonable wife I like to move the parts quickly to recover money from whole cars I buy and to not have them become fixtures on the property. I am not selling as a business or to make a profit, although it is nice to make a few bucks here and there. A few of you know that I have thousands of square feet of storage space dedicated to the love of saving these cars. But what is burdensome is the politics of a few difficult individuals who quote rules of a website that is used as a tool to promote a hobby.
So, if you ever need anything feel free to drop me a note saying, this is what I need along with a suggested market price. When you have a whole car to sell it is too hard to put prices on everything. The professional thing to do would be to make a reasonable and rational offer and hope the seller and you are on the same wave length. But if you are really in need of the part why would you behave in a manner that might impede your chances of closing the deal or demonstrate that behaviour to the whole community???
My goodness, this might be the last time I advertise anything for sale to the broader community and just keep rational members appraised of newly found parts.
Am I out of line here?? I would love the feedback as it late and I am still in the office and would rather be in the shop cutting something up......maybe it is me.....
Everyone wants a deal - this is supposed to be fun.....
When people are asking for parts at 5$ a piece is it worth that person's time to consider the effort to search through boxes, dismantle a part, package items, drive to the post office, and stand in line???
Really?? Is there a particular place on the site to have a gripe session to ensure we are following protocol...
Tell me if I am out of line.....please.
