Hi Gang.
It looks like my original fan clutch isn't working properly. The part number is 2863 233. What are my options if I want to keep the original appearance? Do rebuild services exist? Are NOS units available? Will one of Tony's Parts work?
Thanks
Kevin

Hey Kevin! Answered in order of appearance...

New viscous units are available that are still made the same way. In other words, they look the same. The actual finish color may not be exactly the same as the ‘70’s was. I’m not sure. But below is a new one I picked up for a project.

The units are not rebuildable.

N.O.S. is not available

Tony may indeed have a original unit in stock.

A possible way around to keeping it exactly OE looking is to get a new one and address the finish and stamped numbers. I think the numbers being the harder to reproduce.

Your fan source would be Hayden.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to make a decision about rebuild versus a new restoration part. I imagine that cost will be the deciding factor.

They told me that cost would be $250 plus shipping. For now, I'm using a cheapo Hayden that I bought at Pep Boys. Covid-19 has really impacted my practice and I feel that it is prudent to hold off for now. I will send it out when things settle down.

rumblefish,
I know that this is an old post, but . . . . do you have the part number for the fan clutch shown in the pic in your post? I need to replace mine and this looks to be the closest appearance to OE that I have found. Thanks in advance!

Jim

The standard duty are flat on the front. The heavy duty ones have the thermal coil and bigger fins. I would go with the heavy duty if you are in a warm climate.

You can still buy the standard duty clutch like yours. A lot of folks like me upgraded to the heavy duty one for better cooling performance.
