 Question regarding orientation of the chrome hood pin bezels on a '70 Dart Swinger 340....

These bezels attach with 4 screws at 90 degrees apart. When looking down at the hood from the front of the car, did the factory always install these screws at 12,3,6 and 9 o'clock positions, or at 1:30,4:30,7:30 and 10:30, or something else?

With no disrespect to anyone here, I'm not interested in any opinions. I want to know for sure how the factory did it on this particular car. If you know the answer because you're an original owner of one, or maybe you have some factory documentation that illustrates it, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!

I know you said your not looking for opinions but Im willing to bet the factory could care less how they were clocked.

There should be no wrong way to have the screws positioned on the hood since it would be largely dependant on what day of the week it was built.

Mine was built on a friday and it showed when I was taking it apart.

Just saw this in "related posts" and its a couple of months old, but my factory 70 hood had them at 45° angles, or 1:30 on the clock

Mine were neatly installed ('71 Duster), it's a Wednesday car and they are @ 1:30, 4:30, 7:30 and 10:30 not sure if it's AM or PM, but they did a good job.

After reading your "Wednesday" car quality, I am going to check the build day on my 72 Demon. It's gotta be Monday or Friday as the welds on the driver side along the package tray, and where the quarter seam is in the trunk looked like they were made by a monkey in training. And to answer, yes it's the factory welds lol.

OK, I can't remember when it changed, but it was "officially" accepted that at some point the orientation of the screws moved from dead on 12 o'clock, etc to offset due to the pin wearing out the screw heads at 12 and 6. I think by '70 it had changed to the offset. If the orientation had been random you might have seen different clock positions of the screws from side to side on the same car, which would have been poor quality (and we know Chrysler didn't have poor quality).

My 70 Dart Swinger has the 1:30 orientation. Built in Dec 1969

I think it was Mopar Collector Guide last year some time - there is "correct" and "incorrect". I can appreciate both hobbyists, if you want it done perfect, do your homework, it's amazing how detailed some of this information is, I've been in both camps and , let's just say, I have been set free and am having much more fun with the car I have now! (Hint: '73 Swinger with a '72 front clip, '71 grill, shaved side markers/antenna, '68 x-headed 340, 16" Billet Specialties - shame on me, shame, shame, shame!) :bootysha:
