1970 Duster 340 Clone*Update*

Okay everyone, I'm not sure if but I think I may be in an A body car and it is a 340 clone car.

The car has a 318 in it right now with a 340 air cleaner on it, I plan to if I do get this car on finding a 340 or a 360 to drop in it.

My questions are what do I need to make the car look like a nice 340?

This was an original slant six and here is the fender tag on the car, it will always be left on the car and infact I'm going to make a plate and put it on the fender that says Clone and the date of the clone.

I do not know if that is the full fender tag and I have not decoded the car other then I know it is a 70 Duster.

I want a nice crusing car to have fun in and really just enjoy for local car shows.

I may want to change the color down the road to B5 or FM3 but I've been thinking of a TX9 car.

I always wanted a real one but always wanted to clone one to drive and not worry I may hurt an original car.

PS add what options if you could go back to 1970 and add onto the car you would do, this is an AC car as well.

I'm adding pics here and later down the thread there are some as well, they will be the same as the ones I post here.

This is the only problem area that I know of on the car. The trunk does have surface rust that I will clean out and respray it when I prep the quarter panel.

I'm not sure what you are asking. The car in the link already looks like a nice 340 clone (not 100% correct) but damn nice.

I would just drive it and enjoy.

Thanks it does look nice the paint on the drivers quarter panel will need to be redone. I don't know if it was from gas being spilled or what but its bubbled and comeing off, I can see the grey primer.

Tell what would make it look correct besides the hood on the car?

I really hope the guy ended early on the auction with our deal but if not I will find the right car.

I plan to have fun with it!!!

Need to see more pictures if you want to make it "correct" The biggest difference will be that 340 cars had the Rallye dash.

Looks 340 car enough for me.

What's under hood look like?

Paint the engine orange and put correct year 340 air cleaner on it. That's as far as I would go in making it look legit.

I can't get to the pics now that it was taken off ebay but under the hood is the same color as body and SUPER CLEAN.

The guy emailed me and said it is mine I could do the trade now and he would mail the title to me when it comes in from MECUM or we could wait till next weekend. I'm going to wait till next weekend when we both have titles.

The motor in it right now is a 318 and is painted orange with chrome valve covers and a 340 air cleaner, if memory serves me right its not a dual snorkle on it and that is ok by me I can take care of that later on.

I will look for a 340. 360 or a 383 to drop in it later on and I'm not sear of the rear end but that may be something else I need to find as well.

I just want the car to drive and enjoy and when you look at it you think its the real thing, but when you look at the tage it will show that it was a 6cyl car.

I'm also going to make a tage that reads out CLONE and since its painted now in Lemon Twist I will call it Clone Twist.

I just plan to enjoy it and change a few things on it to give it that 340 look and then later I may look to sell and get something different, but for now I will just enjoy it and being back in the MOPAR world.

Oh and on another note my parents can now ride to car shows with me they couldnt do that in the Vette haha.

I dont have a picture of the fender tag it was typed out in the add. I was using Galens books and and I thought it was a six but the car has a 318 in it.

Yeah G is a 318, I see two different 6cyl listed for 70 and 71 in the books and one is a B code I wonder if it was just a type and he meant to put a 318 code of G because it has a 318 in it.

I will know more later on it, either way 6cyl or 318 code it has a 318 in it and its a very clean car.

There is some surface rust in the trunk pan I will take care of when I repaint the car. I think I will go back with Lemon Twist on the car.

I really like the looks of your car, the stripe on it sets the Lemon Twist off and your hood does as well. I really like that hood.

The hood that is on the one (holding breath before I say mine) I'm trading for has the six pack hood, like you see on 69 Super Bee's. The scoop is molded into the original hood.

I would think its fiberglass and I'm sure there are problems under it if so I think I have a few sources here for hoods, again not a big deal.

I wonder how white stripes down the side and back would look on a yellow car?

i will never forget the pic i saw back in the 80's of a (1 of 9) lemon twist yellow 71 hemicuda' convertable that had a white interior. i always thought a yellow duster with white interior and white stripes with rallye wheels and every option available for 1970 would be badass.

Yeah I love white interior or red with either a black car or silver. I have seen some red interior cars in green and blue cars as well.

My parents owned a 68, 69 and a 70 Dart. I think the 70 four dart was FF4 green and they asked for a red stripe down the side. When they talk about it and others that remember the car they say the red set the green off.

This car will need work on the quarter so if I can get the stripe off I may order a white stripe kit with black buckets for now.

I talked to the guy it does have the fender tag and he said it is a 318 car but not sure if it is numbers matching as he has not looked for the numbers.

He is a big block guy and got the Duster at a good price. I will know more next week or weekend.

Where do I look on the block for the numbers to match the vin#?

Yeah I really love some of the last gen Road Runners and color combos. I have seen some odd color choices but they just look great.

I think I have seen that car or one like it and it did look good. If my memory serves me right there were three color choices in stripes that year, white, black and red. That makes you wonder why they didnt chose black with the seats.

I would have loved to be a sells guy back then ordering cars man I would have made some crazy cars that would be worth the price now lol.

I'm excited about next weekend to get the car I hope it all goes as planned.

Yeah that is the main thing I will do to it right now. I will drive it first and maybe do the work over the winter time.

I wonder if it was gas that did it after the paint was put on or what? The owner doesnt know as it was bought that way.

I need to ask my dad he did body work but I havent asked. I think it is a very minor thing. It just might give me a reason to change the stripes to white lol.

I wanted to ask what other if any in 70 did the Duster get for hood treatments. I'm thinking of like stripes or scoops.

If memory is right the wedge hood treatment was 71 and did the 71s get a scoop or is that a Demon.

No hood scoops on any 340 Dusters ever. Only the twister got the scoops. Also no stripes for 70. The big thing is the rallye dash. It also looks like the shifter you have is the shorter 70 E body piece, Not the correct A body.

I knew the air cleaner was wrong and makes me wish I kept the one from 70 R/T haha.

Yeah I may have a source for the rally dash that wont be as high as a new one.

The hood on it is the original hood with scoop molded into it. I will save this hood and find me one and just repaint it to match the body of the car and have two different hoods.

I also see it has the wrong radio but no big deal its good for a driver will fix someday or just leave.

I will drive the heck out of it and enjoy it but not sure like a rental car haha.
