I looked around briefly on Google for some answers and only found some limited answers. I just got done redoing my 1970 ralley dash for my dart. I know the gauges only run off a 5v feed (otherwise they would fry). When I pulled my dash none of the lights worked or anything. Only gauge that worked was my tach. I didn't see any voltage regulator on it though...I read that the fuel gauge has an internal regulator that takes 12v in and then has a 5v out terminal. Is this correct or am I just missing the regulator? If this is correct which terminals are which? Thanks for any help

Rally dash (oil pressure) IVR is inside the fuel gauge. This is evidenced by THREE studs on the fuel gauge. If you google this you may not find your exact year but the idea is the same...disconnect the internal regulator guts, which is somewhat delicate, and then feed a conventional IVR INTO the 5V stud on the fuel gauge. This is normally the OUTPUT of the IVR coming "out" of the fuel gauge to the other gauges.

Sorry I don't understand. The IVR on "most" (non Rally) clusters is a separate part. "Back in the day" (Ford and AMC used 'em too) was before good solid state circuits existed. The gauges have a natural mechanical delay and are slow to move. The IVR works like a signal flasher, pulsating. This supplies an on/ off signal which "approximates" 5-6V You don't see this because the gauges move slowly

The difference (I don't know WHY) in the early cars and the ralley dash is that Ma decided to build the IVR INTO and unitized WITH the fuel gauge. It is normally not servicable, nor replaceable. "If it failed" back then, you would have to buy a complete new fuel gauge.

Nowadays, guys "hack into" the gauge, disable / remove the old IVR and "hitch" an external one outside.

Ok thank you for the help. I got a voltage regulator from Napa today and wired it in after disabling the one in the fuel gauge. Works great
