Just picked up a 1970 Swinger. Original 340 EV2 4-speed car. Picked it up out of Okotoks, AB, Canada. Last registered in 1991. Plans for restoration back to original with the exception of a built 360 (Currently in car). Has the typical A-body rust in the floor (just the drivers side) quarters, trunk extensions, outer wheel well tubs and inner fenders. surprisingly the trunk pan is mint. It came with a set of solid doors (even from an EV2 car) and the only thing i'll need to track down sheet metal wise is a set of rust free front fenders. I'm going to replace all the sheet metal with AMD full replacement panels.

My Dad is a body man by trade and i grew up in a body shop, and have done a few FWD Mopars over the years. When i was growing up my Dad had the twin to this car from 1989 to 1996 and i've been in search for one since. (his was an auto tho) Here are some pictures of his car when he first got it and after he restored it.

I had one like that when I lived in Maryland back in the early 80's, sans the wing. Love it!

Thanks for the comments! That's a nice swinger 66340sedan, looks pretty solid!

Yeah I was into the Daytona's for a while and had 7 at one point, haha. I learned that there isn't any resale value in them, and took a huge loss when it came time to sell. Here is a video of the resto on the blue 89 Daytona.. The swinger will be getting the same treatment!

Here is the worst part of the car, I checked the frame rail and torque box on this side with a screw driver and scraped all the rust away and it's 100% solid. I was worried when I first saw te rust there but it's nothing serious. The rest of the pan is mint but it will be getting the full floor pan replacement since I don't like patching in panels.

Oh at one time in its life someone stuck an auto in it but I have all the four speed stuff. Once I reinforce te car and cut out all the rust ill send it off to the blaster!

Welcome to FABO HemiOrange, looks like you just joined our fine group of Mopar fanatics and another Edmonton lad, awesome. That's a great find and you've got a plan for your resto and with your Dad in auto body industry this should turn out great. Mine will be going back to original including HemiOrange but right now it's parts collecting time. Any questions please ask away.

Good luck with the project.Good place to start!!

      Thanks guys!

I cant wait to start on it! I hope to find a build sheet under the dash or headliner. I've already looked under the seat and there is no trace of one. I want to know if it had rallye rims, dog dish hubcaps or the full hubcaps, since i plan on going right back to original body wise.

      Hey dmaccons,

Thats awesome. It went to a good home! I only talked to Dean on the phone and he was a really nice guy to do business with. My cousin went and picked the Swinger up for me, so i never went out there.

Does anyone locally or down south have a mint set of fenders? If so PM me.

        hemiorangeswinger,
did you ask Dean if he had a set of fenders.I believe he has at least one parts car there that has the same fenders on it.He has a 40ft container of various sheet metal stuff also.Would surprise you the collection of parts he has.I know he was a big help to me when it came down to the little things I needed for mine.

Yeah I'll be doing a full documentation of this build. I'll be keeping in touch with dean for sure!

I decoded the fender tag, still no luck on a build sheet. I looked behind the glove box and nothing... I hope it's up by the heater core or behind the headliner. If not I'll contact Galen Govier in hopes he can help me out.

Those are some nice looking swingers! My other favorite colour on these cars is the plum crazy purple! So you've got lots of parts? Unfortunately restoring a car in Canada cost twice as much since shipping things is so expensive, but I'm already prepared for that when it comes time to order the sheet metal from AMD, haha

I believe they were originally body color unless the car had the blackout hood treatment, but I could be wrong?

Santa came early this year! Found a set of NOS inner fenders on kijiji!

Has indentation for charcoal canister. Dodge probably made all replacement inner fenders this way past 1972 i'm assuming (were bought originally for a 1969 swinger back in the day) If i decide to eliminate it, i'll just cut the old inner fender out in that area and butt weld it into the new inner fender. I'd rather put NOS parts on and have to modify them slightly, then have to make taiwan ones fit... i'll have my fair share of that when it comes time for all the other sheet metal replacement, haha

Here is the car after its 400km journey... Poor car got soaked in salt. It's all cleaned and in the shop ready to be dismantled.

Swinger trunk lid I'm picking up, it's even from a previous EV2 car. Has the provisions for the go wing, so it's the proper 70-72 one. 100% mint! No swelling of seams and dents.

No real updates yet. I beadblasted the fender tag and put it in primer so it's safe and won't rust any further... It's pretty mint!

I got the passenger side door stripped down, what a PITA getting the glass and vent window out! These are the extra doors that came with the car and have zero rust and no swelling of the seams (Just a few dents, which is no big deal) I found a local place that does acid dipping so I'm gonna give them the doors, trunk and hood to start with and potentially the whole body once I get it stripped down in the spring. I think it will be a more thural way of stripping the car since it will get inside of all the frame rails and inners.

        Thanks!

I got some more parts! I got the hood trim moulding, which has only one little ding from a rock (I'll get it fixed and polished) and the fender extension chrome moulding which need to be rechromed.

I also got a good drivers frame rail... Mine is a little mangled where the bumper bolts up, so I will use this rail to but weld a patch in.

I also drilled out a top roof support since mine is bent.

I got a rear panel assembly. Mine is fine but the outer parts where the quarter panel welds to are potentially rusted on my car near the bottom, so I figured it would be good to have this just in case since this one is mint.

The rad support has a good lower cradle which I'll finish drilling out and sandblasting (has two little woes in it which will dolly out easily)

Rear footwell extensions which are rust free (don't know if I need them yet but got them anyway, just in case.

Right on. Looks like a good start on the collection. Nice to see you're keeping them in a nice dry place! :D Not everyone can get away with all them parts in the house.

Let us know how the dip works out. I may have to run a few parts through some liquid. I don't know if anybody does it here, but I travel by Edmonton once in a while.
