Did all 1971 A Body (340-4 speed Demon) come with the ECS/4 vent tube in the trunk that vents down to the gas tank? It is a car that was built for Canadian spec.

Thanks for the info Steve. The car now has me wondering, being a Canadian built spec car,did they not need the emmission control that the States had in 1971? There is no evidence of a trunk tube being in the car. Of course, could have had the trunk floor/extension changed at one time. But the tank looks original and has just the single front vent nipple

Where does that vent nipple go to on the car. 70 did not have a nipple. 72 and 73 did 70 had a vent on the fill tube like a 67-70 cars did .

But only 70 Duster had the correct fill tube with a vent that will fit a 71 . 70 and 71 are the only sport bodies that the fill tubes interchange. 72 -76 mount different. swinger and scamp will not fit. What gas cap is on the car 67-70? Or a 71? or 72-73.

I have seen 70 dusters with ECS from California. I have never seen a 71 without it. But mopar did some weird things and we learn everyday. Its not a 70 Duster with a Demon tail panel is it? I have seen that already. What headliner bows are in the car? 50 years old who knows what was done . Original paint is the only way to tell on the floor extension.

I have a left fender, ecs tube and the quarter, I am meeting someone at Carlisle to pick up a used Demon tail panel. New AMD panels don't fit. I am not sure what day until he tells me. I am only 1 1/2 hours from Carlisle. I need to get the fenders down to get pictures . Won't be until I get the Mini cooper off the lift.

I've had about (8)71 demons and all of them had that 4 nipple gas tank

My 71 Demon 340 has the vent tube/standpipe in the trunk. It was originally ordered and delivered in the Cleveland, OH, area.

What’s the build date? Is it late?

SPD June of '71. Currently they have the vent tube (front of tank) attached to the vent line that runs up the right-side frame rail into the engine compartment and then a hose attached to that running over the valve cover breather (3 nipple cap). I think we have some more investigating to do before we tear into this thing. Steve PM sent. Thanks

What gas cap do you have. I believe late builds they got rid of ECS system

No, they changed, but every car since about 70 (CA) and 71 (Fed) has a sealed "carbon can" tank vent system.

Here are some clues to the "mystery" The gas cap looks like a replacement, but the tank and the connect hose and clamps look original. Notice the '72 canister indent right inner fender also.

Yes replacement cap, but its a late 71-72 cap. Late build did not come with ECS. Just the one vent line

Looks like a Bitsa . A bitsa this and a bitsa of that. To much going on with all the undercoat and sealer at the seam for the trunk extension, If no tube why the bracket on the wheel well.

Look for the tell tale Phillips screw. Then you'll know if its a real 340 car.

Also the filler neck Has to be an inside flange 70 style if that cap fits . Or a 72-73 style put on the inside to make that cap level with the quarter 72 the flange is on the outside and that ca will never fit a 71. You could keep spinning it in circles trying to put that cap on a 71 . Is there any evidence of a barb being on the filler tube for the 70 vent hose.

Post pictures of under car , hood , Dash and in the trunk.

What is the original color? looks to light for Sassy Grass Green. Is there a data plate. Check the paint code and make sure the coded color is under that repaint somewhere on the body. If that car is real it would be the first for me. It could be but there is to much not adding up. The major problem is why the tube bracket on the wheel well and no tube?

I did many front clips on these cars and I never myself saw a 71 with the indent for the evap canister. If it has the tank for the canister where is the canister. I would not believe the breather cap would vent the tank without the ECS . That would be a direct oil path to the tank or gas to the engine. Does the car have the one way valve on the vent line?
