1971 Demon 340 Inside out build "Demon-Rat"

-
I got a few hours in the shop tonight after work. Right now I am just fitting up the sheet metal to make sure everything fits well. Lots of measurements being taken side to side. Everything fits really well except the front spring hanger. Once I get everything where I want it I will fit the rear floor and trunk pan, mark the weld locations and then pull the pans out and weld the rail and cross member in. Then the other side its next!

I got some time this afternoon to work on the Demon. I welded in the driver frame rail, and front spring hanger bracket. As you can see I checked width with a tram gauge and also cross checked the rear rail with the tram. I have a factory body manual and the specs are within 1/8th of an inch. Right side frame rail is out along with the rear portion of the right inner rocker. I'm going to try to have all of that welded tomorrow or at least fit up and ready to burn some wire sometime next week.

I got another afternoon to work on the Demon. Right side rear inner rocker is done, rail and both spring mounts are pretty much ready to burn in. I'm going to fit the rear crossmember this week and get all of it welded in. Then I decided I better clean the shop a little. Looked like a bomb went off.

I am amazed at your car building skills! I measure three times and still cut a piece of wood to the wrong size. Great job! I enjoy watching the progress and realize that is not a project I should undertake.

Thank you! I have been doing body and paint for 24 years now or so. I was lucky when I was a kid and had a lot of old school techs teach me. I'm sure with some work anyone can do what I do. Just planning measuring and such. I knew this car needed help when I bought it. It was actually scary to see the things that were done to it....

You're too dang good for your own good.
A true perfectionist.
