1971 Dodge Demon Sport Hood Treatment (J54)

-
If there's anything I've learned with messing with these cars, it's that there was HARDLY EVER an absolute way they were built. This is one instance where - if it were mine - I'd do it the way that looked best to me and call it good.

The other picture you posted is not original paint or stripes on the first picture and is not even close to that patina hood or the ad picture. And I never believe a picture of a car in an ad second pic. If I did the 3rd Bahama brochure picture would be correct. The patina hood looks like a winner.

I didn't look at it at first because most of the time you try and baffle me with bull **** like the other picture of the orange car. That car was repainted and has after market side stripes as well. There is many pictures of that car on the web. The 4th to 8th pictures look to be the correct dimensions the 8th having the perimeter stripe.

Not many repaint them the correct way. Hope this helps. I have measurements off the orange hood leaning on the wall if there is any interest.

1 5/8 from the side and 1 5/8 from the front follows the front edge , 1 1/8 from the chrome if its on, 2 1/8 between the two in the center.
the perimeter stripe can be added to the inside of that. Take this info for what its worth, That hood is all original paint. Just hope it helps some Demon restorers in the future.

The black and white pictures I posted are not from an ad. They were in Road Test magazine, and that was a production 1971 340 car. Obviously, no patina on a brand new car.

I don’t try and baffle you. It’s not my fault you’re easily baffled by common sense and basic facts.

As for the rest of it, the assembly manual is a better source of information than you’ll ever be.

Some of those hoods came with the accent line and some did not. Also seen some original hoods differences in the paint layout. Maybe depending on what day of the week it was.

Exactly. Like basic common sense. Every one of those hoods was an individual layout, performed by different painters at different plants over the course of a production run where it seems pretty obvious that some changes were made.

Even in the realm of Ma Mopar’s 1970’s production standards that hood blackout following any kind of tight standard is a terrible bet. The individual nature of how that was done would make it one of the least uniform procedures on the assembly line.

That’s like two cars with a metallic paint code painted on different days at different plants being the exact same color. It would be more strange if they DID match exactly.

You can paint your dumpster what ever way you want. Nothing else on your car is correct anyway. The measurements and pictures I gave are correct for a 1971 Demon.
Perimeter stripe or not.

Oh wow I have your permission to paint MY car anyway I want? Gosh!

Yeah that was the point, it's a '74 /6 no options no matching numbers Duster. The whole point was I could do whatever I want to it, including a Demon tribute. I've got less money into the conversion than if I'd bought a real Demon, and started with a better chassis too. Of course if I'd bought a real Demon guys like you would have just whined and complained even more about everything I've done to make it better than Ma Mopar ever made it back in the day. Not that you don't constantly whine and complain about it anyway.

Say, what A-body are you driving these days? Like, you know, actually DRIVING. On a regular basis. Or do you not drive them anymore and just whine about everyone else's choices?

I see nothing wrong with your car and I like what you have done with it to improve what you started with.. Its you that always acts like a condescending *** hole. Some of your posts with several quotes turn into books of your downgrading Bullshit .

I drive what ever is in the driveway. After driving some late model performance cars, I realized these 55 year old cars are more fun to build for other people and let them pay for the upgrades.

At 70 years old I drive Rams . When it comes to old mopars been there done that. Just finished a resto on a r53 Mini S with my one daughter. I had more fun helping and teaching her it was a blast. We now have 3 here. Another build just came in. I have many people waiting to bring their cars. No time for mine tha'ts why I gave them all to my son.

Well now that you chimed in, A little while back you asked me for something . Why do you think I didn't reply? You always get involved and spew more bullshit that does not involve you.

Look at my first post. I only gave measurements and pictures of an original hood. Then go to post #4 and Post #11. Who started the bullshit again? Your Good buddy

You know the old saying about Good buddies don't you. A buddy goes out and gets 1 , A good buddy gets 2 and comes back and gives his buddy 1 . Is this normal thing on the left coast? Jumping in when ever you need fulfillment? Because I didn't mention or quote him at all until he started his normal bullshit. And now here you are again twisting the knife as usual. LMFAO .
