Hello all... I have been looking for a while for my first muscle car and came across this Dodge dart locally. I do not know much about these models so looking for information from the experts on what you think of this car and what it would be worth. Here is the description, any help or info greatly appreciated:

The car has ice cold factory a/c power disk brakes and steering. Trans is a 727 with stock converter .rear end is a 8 3/4 323 rato I think not sure. the color is b5 blue factory twin hood scoops in black and bumble-bee stripe also in black. factory mopar rally wheels 14 inch with nice tires. 2 1/2 Flow master exhaust with true duel with cuda tips. Car runs very strong as is you could make even faster, by changing a few things. Just to much to list I think I have covered most of the important thing can ask me questions no problem Price to sell maybe a trade for 1961 station wagon with no rust that drives. If you like mopars you'll like this car nice and clean with black interior some kind of gm bucket seats (came with the car)

I am thinking it is a $10,000.00 car asking price. Show some cash get it for $8000.00 or $8500.00. It depends on how much the seller needs the money. It looks like paint and body are done which is a big savings on the side of the buyer. However, the market I think is weak, people aren't rolling in dough like before so yes, I think a buyer could score this for a hair under $10K. Now, a few years back when things were good, Id say the seller would be asking $12,000.00 - $13,000.00 and take $10,000.00 cash. You always have to talk them down a bit from the asking price. (Disclaimer: this is my opinion, opinions vary depending on your location and the present economy in your location. I am only stating what I think and I may be wrong).

Yeah, I agree with Ryan, hard to tell from pics but looks like a decent car with a lot of the right stuff. $6500-$8000 and maybe a bit more depending on what it looks like in person.

LOL, I appreciate the feedback. The guy is asking $16k which I thought was a bit high. Glad I posted on this forum...

Yeah, that's easily twice what its worth... not to mention it will have problems you cant see in pictures

Well it could be worth more but you'd have to see some large receipts. I can believe the guy could have $15k + into it.....getting it back is another story....believe me, I know.

The amount of money you put into a vehicle has little bearing on what you will get out of it. That sucks, but it's also a fact.

About 40 years ago, we ( 3 friends an myself) did a little experiment, with two 318's.

We were selling them both through the local classifieds and "shoppers guide" type publications ( no internet at the time).

We had them in separate adds. one 318 was a mild build, and pretty stout, but looked bone stack, with original air cleaner, and rocker covers, and paint.

The second was a stock engine, that had about 65K miles on it. We painted the engine black, put chrome rocker covers, air cleaner, and rocker cover breathers on it.

No headers or exhaust manifolds on either. Both were in the paper at the same time, Both engines were in the classifieds for "$450.00 Firm", and both were fully described.
We actually got more phone calls for the stock engine than we did for the built engine, simply because it looked so much better. What's more, the people calling on the built engine wanted to bargain with us, whereas the people calling about the dressed stock engine were perfectly willing to go for the $450.00.

We did sell the stock, dressed up engine, as the built engine was it's replacement in my buddy's Duster. Yes, we told the buyer exactly what the engine was, and let him have it for $300.00 with the chrome stuff on the engine. I suppose he was happy, as we never head from him any more.

I know some shifty people who have done that with cars. Make them look good. sell them for top dollar, and yet they are nothing special. While friends with some very nice vehicles, that they've spent so bucks on take a beating when they sell them.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $8500.00 for any 72 Dart. I love the Swinger body, but, $8500 is max.

You say "must run on high octane". How high? Higher than pump gas? Race gas? If so, that will have a bearing on value for anyone who may want it for a street car. I am very familiar with that cam. It's a great street cam but it does not like compression. It build cylinder pressure. I'm betting it needs pump gas plus a spike of race gas or some octane booster. How close am I? Don't fib, now.

Per the owner he says it runs fine on 93 octane.
