Hi Guys, this is not a far sale ad...(yet, I should say) Just looking for some info..I dont know much about Dusters but my father has this 1973, A lot of options...bucket seats, console, automatic, front disk brakes, power steering, brakes, sway bar,A/C..car but not there.8 3/4 rear, Suregrip....tinted glass..real "H" code 340 car but has late 69 or 70 great running 340 with factory X heads. Its a driver car, needs some body/paint work and interior. Vin starts with VS29H3B thats pretty much all I know about it....He was wondering if there were any production numbers on these cars out there as far as how many were built? Being a 1973, factory H car it is the last of the dionosour's so to speak. Did they build many? Interesting car, If I was not building my 69 fastback I would probably be all over it!

Wow! That many were 340 cars huh?....I figured it would have been a lot less then that. But then again, I did say I was not "up" on the Dusters. Most 73's Ive seen had a column shift/Bench seat and obviously no console. I know he's thinking of putting it up for sale so I can let you all know what he decides. Im still kickin' the idea around myself but I just do not have the room or money right now to be doing up another car. The wife will kill me! Hmmm, duster or wife? LOL What do I want more..:)

Nice car and full of options, I see turn sig on the fenders!!
That car would fill my needs and more :headbang:

This is a nice car with some desireable options. My recommendation is to keep it and restore it. If you can't afford to restore it, clean up any rust and keep it in the garage unitl you can. For general historical information, try checking out the following Web sites:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Duster
http://www.valiant.org/duster.html
http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/
http://www.hemmings.com/

Most of all, if you really like the car, have fun restoring it. If you don't like the car, make sure you sell it to someone who does. It's well worth restoring.

I have heard that 340 engines were produced the most in 1973. The 340 in my Valiant is a '73.

I passed on a '73 340 Duster at a towing auction in 1988. It sold for $200.00 but I didn't care at the time because I was a Buick GS guy. Before you guys line up to kick me in the butt I have already kicked myself numberous times for it.

 That is a very reasonable price for that beautiful duster. I have more than that in my attached photo (73 clone) and I still haven't up graded the drive train to 340 specs yet, although my engine is about complete. Wish I had something like your dads car to start with, it is all there and in reasonably good shape. KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY IF YOU CAN SWING IT !!!!!!! WALT O:)

I'd let Dad know that you like the car alot, maybe should keep it for awhile longer!

Back in the day Plymouth was selling Dusters like hotcakes. Many a duster 340 was a thorn in the side of many of the big-block guys; the A-body / 340 combo is one of the best matched chassis/engine deployments of the time.

My understanding is that the '73s had de-tuned 340s (most had blue engine paint) from their older sisters but had better suspensions and that 5 MPH bumper (BTW, those little rubber 'bumperetts' cost a fortune, take good care of them!).

A high optioned '73 (last year for the 340s!) in good condition is a rare find and if you don't belive me just try and find a console like that one. I know I still am. What ever else you do, HANG ON TO IT if you can. Failing that, like Cid.V said, if you don't keep it, make sure it goes to someone who will treat it with respect rather than some punk who will trash it in one summer.

My $0.02 -LY
