I bought a 1974 NOS 1945 rebuilt carb on ebay to replace my earlier 1920 holly. I'm not familiar with these every duster i owned had a 1920 holly with a slant six I wanted the correct one for my car so i installed with no problem it seems to get not much gas in the bowl the fuel pump is fine gas is pumping out of the line i even took out the fuel inlet out of the carb though that could be clogged and there was gas coming out of that it started a few times but i think there's bot enough fuel in the bowl any ideas hope somebody can help here are some picture of it when it was on ebay

That is not a NOS carburetor, it is a "remanufactured" unit with signs of more than the usual carelessness: anticorrosion surface treatments stripped off with quick-and-nasty blast cleaning, then not replaced. That means this carburetor, running on today's gasohol, will quickly turn into a pile of white "metal mould" corrosion, inside and out. Teflon coating stripped off the throttle shaft and not replaced, which means sloppy fit in the bushings and resultant idle/driveability problems. "Remanufactured" carbs have a well-deserved terrible reputation as a pile-of-crapshoot. Once in awhile you get lucky and get one that works okeh…the same way once in awhile you get lucky and win the $45-million lotto jackpot.

The problem is, there aren't really any E-Z/cheap alternatives. Occasionally NOS carburetors (real ones) go by on eBay, at high prices. There are still a few skilled carburetor rebuilders out there who, given a salvageable core, can turn out a good-running carburetor. This, too, is not cheap.

On top of (all) that: the 1974 1945 was an unhappy carburetor right from the start. 1974 was the first year for the 1945, and it was half-baked. Many, many TSBs and updates the first few years.

Yes i knew it was not nos but a reman that was a brain fart and turns out a brain fart in buying it I was asking around to have it rebuilt a few people want $360 as you said expensive! so your basically saying it remans were never that good and it was done poorly so that's why i can't get it running i think i'll put my 1920 back on
 
Let's not be too dramatic about all of this. You won't find an NOS BBS, 1920 or 1945 carb for less than 1 millllion dollars, so don't spend time looking. I bought several used original carburetors for cores for the very reasons that Dan mentions. However, if you need to use a reman carb, it'll work as long as you go through it and make sure it's adjusted correctly, PER THE FSM, and that there aren't parts laying loose inside or in the wrong places. I run a china BBD clone on my D150 and it works great...after I replaced the cheap jobber float and needle and seat with OEM Carter parts.

Not sure why your car has a Holley 1920 on it, but I would stick with a Holley 1945 at all costs. You couldn't pay me to run another 1920 on anything. They have all of the Holley drawbacks with none of the performance. I suggest that you pull the 1945, rebuild it and adjust it yourself according to the FSM, and it should work fine. Politely...you don't have to be a carburetor expert to rebuild a 1bbl.
