1974(?) Steering shaft removal

I am completely stumped on how to get the steering shaft out of the shift tube on this column.
Anyone have a factory manual photo or could explain it?

Really appreciate any help you may have.

Shaft goes out the bottom. At the top there is a thin sheet metal cover hiding a tapered pin through the wheel lock ring that will go out only one way. Then there is a tiny snap ring above the upper bearing. That ring can create a burr at the groove that prevents the shaft going through the bearing easily.
