1996 dodge truck,kills

any idea why a 96 dodge 1500 4x4 318 motor wont idale. if i slowly let off the gas it ideals very low but if i just take my foot off it will kill. it did it just every now and then at first then about 2 weeks ago it started doing it all the time.

crap in the air horn / throttle plate area will block the air flow and cause that.

Have you checked the throttle position sensor? That, or clean the idle air sensor on the back of the throttle body. Pull it out and give it a good cleaning. They can get gummed up with carbon and need to be cleaned.

A cracked vacuum line will cause that too.

i'll check all that u guys posted. hell it wouldnt hurt to do a complet tuneup on it. sould be do for one soon. thanks guys. ill post what i find.

I just went thru this with a 3.4 Pontiac motor..cruded up Idle Air Controler..Took about 20 min to pull it out of the throttle body and clean it with TB cleaner. If thats the problem clean the throttle body throat too, good luck

First, a TB clean.
But it sounds like a IAC issue. (Idle air control)
Then, if the EGR valve is malfunctioning, it wont idle worth a can of beans, and will stutter and surge under low throttle settings.
