You have to look at the two front intake bolts vs the ones just behind them. If the angle is different, you need the early type intake, or re-drill the holes in the intake, or new heads.

66-up should all have the same common bolt angles. 64-65 273's were the exception. Don't go too nuts on the intake, an Edelbrock Performer will be just fine as would a used LD4B.
you can go 4bbl just make sure its not a huge carb and intake or else your going to have to deal with updating the cams too just a simple intake mani with a 600 or 550 cfm carb will do
