2 center section questions

are the 741 and 489 cases the same length, and how do i check end play on axels when i change them? thanks and how much should there be?

The 8-3/4 center sections are all the same dimentions on the outside.

End play of the axles are done with pulling the axle and pushing them in and then pulling on it outwards.

Have the guage set up to measure from pushed in to pulled out while all bolted up.

Measurements I can not remember, but should be in a service book, Chiltons or MoPar service manual, possibly in the MoPars book on chassis. Or someone here will get it to ya quick.

Two things,if you intend to use the old style bearing the adjustment is .008-.012 end play on the axle.or you can install the green bearings and not do any adjustments at all,bolt it in and forget it,mrmopartech
